On May 21, Nashotah House celebrated its 180th Commencement Exercises, conferring degrees to 24 graduates.

Join us in praying for the Class of 2026 as they embark on their next chapter of ministry in the Church and in their communities.

From the Nashotah House prayer:

Bless all who may be trained here; take from them all pride, vanity, and self-conceit, and give them true humility and self-abasement. Enlighten their minds, subdue their wills, purify their hearts, and so pe*****te them with your Spirit and fill them with your love, that they may go forth animated with earnest zeal for your glory; and may your ever living Word so dwell within their hearts, that they may speak with that resistless energy of love which shall melt the hearts of sinners to the love of you.

**Update with answer: Last week’s two-for-one photo featured Upper and Lower Nashotah Lakes! Check back tomorrow for the next entry in this weekly photo series, "Guess the Lake."

Week 2 of our new photo series: Guess the Lake!

This week is a two-for-one challenge. We’re featuring an upper and lower lake sharing the same name. Can you tell which Oconomowoc area lakes these are? All of the aerial photos in this series were taken in the late 1970s (likely on the same day). Some will be easy… others a bit trickier. Think you know the answer? Drop your guess in the comments! We’ll update this post with the answer next Tuesday. Good luck and have fun!

Are sacred pictorial images powerful or dangerous?

Students will explore that question and others during "Icons, Idols, and Idolatry," a summer course with Dr. Robin Jensen.

The course will examine the history of the visual image’s place in religious practice, beginning with biblical texts that associate images with idolatry and continuing through the controversies over the role of visual art, icons, and image through this history of the church. Topics include the early Christian disparagement of pagan idols, the Byzantine “war on images” in the eighth and ninth centuries, the theological defense of sacred icons in both East and West, the relationship between miraculous images and holy relics, the Protestant Reformation repudiation of sacred visual art from the sixteenth century forward, and the role of art for the church today.
