Now Israel is devoid of devotion to the Lord. Now Israel is going through the motions
without seeking God’s blessings prior to the engagement, and without giving God thanks once the victories are won. Israel is now barely giving lip-service to the truth that they belong to the Lord, that he sovereignly rules and reigns over them and over all things. 🤔

Christ is the one who comes to us, and he comes to us bringing to the table the strength to endure and to succeed and to survive. Here’s what the believer in Jesus has learned…it’s not that God does not give us more than WE can handle, but rather it’s that God does not give us more than HE can handle. 🤔

God has anointed Gideon to serve, and to
lead God’s people into battle, and so to deliver the Israelites from the oppression of the enemy, and Gideon steps onto the threshing floor…and once again, God moves to separate the wheat from the chaff. 🤔

In our pursuit of wealth or status or career or even perhaps just a hobby…if through such an endeavor we succumb to a conforming to the pattern of this world, then we certainly have fallen into the same downward spiral into which
Israel fell during the time of the Judges, then we are clinging to worthless idols. 🤔

Just as an earthquake or a storm wreaks havoc upon the land and the people, so God’s power is let loose over Canaan. Deborah is right to make this reference to God, and to declare her praise to whom glory is due. 🤔

A violent, gruesome scene. And yet, God allowed the event to occur…and is it not
so that God ordained it? Jael took advantage of divine circumstance, she was enabled by divine power, and she was commissioned by divine warrant. Jael’s act contributed to the deliverance of Israel, ordered by God Almighty who is the Righteous Judge and the Avenger. 🤔

The Israelites had forgotten the Lord by disregarding his lordship, and by compromising their understanding of the importance of his plan, and by lessening their reliance upon God who loved them and had brought them home. 🤔

How is it that they did not know these things? It must be because the previous generation did
not pass them on. The first generation did not teach their children about the great events of Israelite history, and further they did not pass on to them their knowledge of and devotion to God as savior and deliverer and sustainer and their
conquering king. Where was the testimony of God’s people? 🤔
