Hello, I am Marilyn Dale! 👋Thank you for taking a moment to get to know me. Somewhere along the line I read, “whatever you loved to do in kindergarten is what yo

u’ll love to do all your life.” For me, it’s true, and I am both so lucky and blessed. I loved drawing and coloring. My favorite toys were my crayons.Today, as a fine artist, I am an award winning artist, a colorist, accomplished in oil, watercolor and pastel. I am inspired by landscapes and people, creating everything from traditional portraiture through abstractions. I’ve earned a Certificate in Painting from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and taken additional coursework there for more than twenty years. A working artist, graphic designer and art instructor, I’ve taught art to adults in the continuing education department of a small college and my local art league. I enjoy painting in oil, watercolor and pastel, from traditional portraiture through abstraction. In addition to artwork to hang in your home or office, I have designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works and had several works published. I enjoy working on commissions, where the pieces have personal significance to the owner. As the chair of the Art and Environment Ministry for my church for many years, I've designed large-scale liturgical fabric and stained glass works. Several of my pieces have been featured in publications by the North American Conference of Separated and Divorced Catholics, the Lutheran Church, University Hill Congregation and frequently by the Ministry and Liturgy Magazine. I am also the author of Energize Your Art Ministry.

Still She Grows

Approx. 37X25" on paper, framed. This original painting is charcoal, graphite, gesso and watercolor on high quality, thick gessoed paper.

Created in the style of Jim Dine - a process of drawing and erasing, redrawing, re-erasing, and so on for multiple iterations. Photos shown show the process of drawing and erasing.

This one was finished with gesso and pigment. While a frustrating process at first, it is actually quite fulfilling. Drawn from a live still life set up, the flowers grew over the week and the plants turned to and from the light while this still life was set up! The painting has captured the aliveness of the scene.

For authentication, it is signed and dated on the back.
I am happy to help select a frame to accent the piece and coordinate with your aesthetic!

"Tell those woodpeckers to stop" // https://www.marilyndale.com/dale-open-edition-prints/art_print_products/tell-those-woodpeckers-to-stop

Originally created as small pieces, each approx 9" wide, 6" tall. This image can be printed using archival inks on either fine art watercolor paper or a wrapped canvas.

This series was all created at once. I was enjoying experimenting with a wide variety of inks, pencils, pens, charcoal, and brushes. The blue is actually blue painters tape that added just the pop to bring these to life. These would look wonderful as multiples - in a set of 3, 6 or 9. Or, print your favorite on a huge wrapped canvas for a true statement piece, there's a wide variety of sizes available

Do you see the woodpecker here? There's one (or more!) that loves to rap on my house and drive me bonkers. But they never listen to me! This one's an ode to the woodpeckers.

Where do you spend the most time? Does the art in that room actually reflect how much time you spend there?

The spaces we use most deserve the most thought.

On my mind lately: "Summer Leaves"

I'm Hearing Things

Archival inks are used to create these high quality prints on wrapped canvas or fine art paper in a wide range of sizes to fit your needs.

These marks are my reaction to repetitive sounds.... sounds that once revealed on paper showed me a flock of birds in glorious flight. What do you see?

I enjoyed making this series, Reverberations, waking early to catch the fleeting sounds of birds. It was amazing how repetitive they are, and at the same time how eternally different. I love what emerged in response. The simplicity is confounded by the complexity of the marks.

Here is a question worth sitting with: what do you actually see when you walk into your own home?

Not what is there, but what do you still notice? What draws your eye?

What have you stopped seeing because it has been there so long?

"Bright Day Dawns" and the online art gallery is here, if you need to switch things up.
