Today’s Homily
When your phone is dead, everything stops.
No calls, no messages, no internet. It suddenly feels like you are cut off from the world. That’s why we make sure to charge it regularly. Without power, the phone is useless.
In a similar way, Jesus speaks to us in today’s Gospel:
“I am the vine, you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.”
A branch that is cut off from the vine may look fine for a short time, but slowly it dries up and dies. Why? Because it is no longer connected to its source of life.
Jesus is reminding us that He is our source. When we stay connected to Him, we grow. We bear fruit. We experience peace and joy. Our life has meaning.
But what disconnects us from Jesus?
Sometimes it is laziness in prayer.
Sometimes too much attachment to our phones or distractions.
Sometimes anger, bad habits, or neglect of God’s Word.
Skipping Mass or failing to love others also weakens that connection.
Just like a phone needs daily charging, our soul also needs daily connection with Jesus—through prayer, Scripture, the Eucharist, and acts of love.
Today, Jesus asks each one of us a simple but important question:
“Will you stay connected to Me?”
Because only when we remain in Him, can we truly live and bear lasting fruit. Amen
