Dear parents,
A short update: 1) scriptures, and 2) water bottles.
1) Just like prior years, students will be marking, highlighting, and annotating their personal paper scriptures in seminary class.
a. If your child has paper scriptures available for their use in seminary, please have them bring the scriptures on the first day of class. We have a few extra for those who need them.
b. Students may leave their scriptures in their seminary “cubby” in their classroom.
c. Electronic devices are NOT required for seminary, but may be used in seminary for
i. Gospel research (when directed by the teacher), and
ii. Journaling activities (notes section) on the gospel library. Students will journal most days in class. STudents will be provided a seminary study journal for use in class.
2) Water Bottles. The water fountains in the seminary building will not be available for use. Students may, however, carry a water bottle. Water bottles may be filled in the sink at the seminary building.
Below, you will find the same info that I posted earlier this week. Please contact me or Brother Tolman with questions.
May heaven shine on you and your family!
Brother Stafford
(Some of this information, below, is not relevant for Skyview Seminary Students who attend a charter school).
We are thrilled for the plan to return to in-person seminary classes. See our posts on Facebook SkyviewLdsSeminary and Instagram or See below for the details:
What are the guiding principles?
1) We will strive to provide the best in-person seminary experience while striving to keep everyone in our community safe.
2) Seminary students and staff will continue to mirror the format and practices of Skyview high school. (Yes, masks, social distancing, and good hygiene practices are also required at the seminary building).
3) We will strive to follow Jesus Christ and His example as we work through the challenges with hybrid online/in-person seminary.
What are the dates and schedules of in-person seminary classes?
1) Unless otherwise announced, Skyview High School will reopen on Monday, September 21, in a modified in-person experience. Skyview Seminary will mirror this approach.
2) Just like Skyview High School, Skyview Seminary students with last names beginning with A-L will attend in-person seminary on Mondays and Thursdays. Seminary students with last names beginning with M-Z will attend in-person seminary on Tuesdays and Fridays. No students will attend on Wednesdays.
3) Seminary class times are as follows: 1st Period 7:43-8:16AM. 2nd Period: 8:29-9:02 AM. 3rd Period: 9:15-9:48AM. 4th Period: 10:01-10:34AM. 7th Period: 1:18-1:51PM. 8th Period: 2:04-2:36PM
What will students do on days that they do not attend in-person seminary?
1) On the days students do not attend in-person seminary, they will complete a module on SiLearn.
2) Wednesdays, however, students will neither complete a SiLearn module nor attend an in-person seminary class. Skyview High School has reserved this day for mentoring and tutoring.
Eating lunch at the seminary building?
1) Skyview Seminary has a great tradition of students eating lunch in the seminary building. This tradition will continue.
2) Students eating lunch in the seminary building will follow the same lunch practices as Skyview High School. Brother Stafford and Brother Tolman will explain these practices when they arrive.
3) The lunch schedule this year is modified: 1st Lunch 10:43-11:13AM. 2nd Lunch 11:18-11:48. 3rd Lunch 11:53-12:23.
What about students who attend NOVA (or other fully-online schools)?
1) These students are welcome and encouraged to attend in-person seminary.
2) Skyview Seminary will provide a virtual seminary experience for our NOVA (and other fully-online schools) students who do not attend in-person seminary.
We are most grateful for Jesus Christ and His perfect influence during this challenging time. We know that the Lord will continue to bless our seminary students and their families for their efforts during this imperfect situation.
