Westminster Presbyterian Church

Westminster Presbyterian Church You are loved. You are enough. You belong. We know God because God chooses to reveal Godself to us in Jesus Christ.

God chooses to be present in the Body of Christ, the Church, beyond walls, doors, or denominations. May the God who made you meet you right where you are.

This summer Westminster is reading the book of Joshua together and we have a remarkable gift to kick us off.

Two falls ago we lived in Exodus and Deuteronomy. We followed Moses from the basket in the river to the burning bush to let my people go. We watched a people wander. We received the commandments. We stood with Moses at the edge of the promised land and watched him not go in.

And then what?

If you’ve ever wondered what happens next, this is our summer. Joshua is where the story goes. And there is so much more than you could have imagined.

Father and daughter theologians Paul R. Hinlicky and Sarah Hinlicky Wilson prepared a 20-minute video introduction just for us. Paul is a pastor, theologian, and professor at Roanoke College. Sarah is a pastor and theologian who recently served at Tokyo Lutheran Church in Japan. Together they bring deep scholarship and genuine love for Scripture and it shows.

We are not so different from that wilderness generation. Unformed and reformed. Falling apart and coming back together by grace. We feel the stabilization. We don’t yet know what we’re being shaped into. Neither did they. Come find out with us.

Something is happening at Westminster this Eastertide… and we want you to be part of it.
From Easter to Pentecost, our Prayers of the People will turn toward the broader body of Christ right here in Nacogdoches. We’ve compiled a list of Christian congregations within our city limits, and each Sunday we will pray for them by name trusting that when we pray for our neighbors, something real moves between heaven and earth.
Theologian Samuel Wells describes the intercessor as standing in a sacred space where two hands reach toward each other; God drawing near to the people, and the people drawing near to God. That’s what we’re doing together. That’s what we’ve always been invited to do.
And it doesn’t stop there. Green prayer cards are now in the pews. Write down whatever is on your heart: a personal need, a concern for your neighborhood, something weighing on the world. Indicate how much you’d like shared, place it in the offering plate, and your concern will be woven into the following Sunday’s prayers. You are not praying alone.
Come expectant. Come ready to be part of a community that speaks and listens together in the presence of God. By the power of the Risen Lord, we are becoming the church together.
