AS WE GATHER
One by one, Jesus called followers to chart a new direction in life. As we look at Jesus' call to the Gospel writer Matthew, we also realize that God calls each one of us to become a follower of Christ. As followers, the Holy Spirit then gives spiritual gifts that enable Christian life and service.

AS WE GATHER
The Holy Trinity presents profound complexities. The church wrestles to synchronize the identities and the activities of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. The Athanasian Creed is the treatise that sews together the equality and uniqueness of the three persons of the Trinity. With faith's assurance, the church confesses trinitarian substance, coeternal majesty, and seemingly unattainable mystery. The Uncreated, the Infinite, the Almighty are One in Three. The Holy Trinity is working in our midst today, every day, and eternally. We may not understand fully, and yet, by faith we believe the Father works - creating; the Son works - redeeming; and the Spirit works - sanctifying. Our entire life of frailty and faith is only possible because the Holy Trinity is with us, for us, and alongside us!

AS WE GATHER
It is the third Jewish pilgrimage festival, Shavuot, the "week of weeks"—seven times seven plus one, the fiftieth day—when Pentecost arrives. For us, it is the last day of the Easter season and the first day for Christ's church on earth. Today we discover what it means to be united in the apostles' teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. All of this is enabled by the "fire" of the Holy Spirit burning in us and through us, so that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

AS WE GATHER
Jesus' Ascension happened forty days after Easter. We celebrate that our Lord ascended into the clouds and also the promise that He remains with us. He went up with glory so that He could be present with us always. Our Lord has not abandoned His people, but has gone to prepare the way for us. Furthermore, He has promised His Spirit so that we have the faith to know that He is the Way.

AS WE GATHER
"Make Disciples," "by teaching," was our Lord's parting instruction to his followers. We obey Jesus' direction, in part, by the process we call Confirmation. Not a "graduation," Confirmation signals a passage to the beginning of young people's Christian life as young adults. Parents often speak on behalf the faith for the child at their Baptism. Today we celebrate with Austin, Lexie and Luke on this milestone, as they now speak of their own faith.
