Gracious God, we thank you for your mutual calls to freedom and interdependence: as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States of America, grant us the grace to strive always for a more perfect union, that life in all its wonderful variety may be respected, liberty from fear and prejudice may be realized, and the happiness of the few may not be borne by the sorrows of the many; and shine the light of your love on our communities, both local and nationals, in the name of the one who leads us in the work of justice and peace, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
