Myrtle Beach City Council recognized January 27, 2025, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day at this morning’s council meeting. Rabbis Doron Aizenman and Avi Perets attended to receive the proclamation and speak of the influence of the Jewish community in the Myrtle Beach area. The proclamation reads…
“WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is recognized globally on January 27 to mark the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and to honor the six million Jewish men, women and children and others who lost their lives during the Holocaust; and
WHEREAS, The Holocaust serves as a grim reminder of the depths of human cruelty but also as a call to action to stand up against hatred; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Jewish community in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina have greatly contributed to the preservation of the memory of those who lost their lives in the Holocaust and to making sure the stories of those who survived the Holocaust are told; and
WHEREAS, the City of Myrtle Beach strongly stands against any forms of antisemitism and stands behind our Jewish community members;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, That the City of Myrtle Beach hereby declares January 27, 2025 as “Holocaust Remembrance Day,” in recognition of the efforts of the members of our Jewish community to honor and preserve the memories and stories of those affected by the Holocaust.”
