🌈 Welcome to the Open + Affirming family, South Hills Christian Church!

We are honored to celebrate South Hills Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas, and their faithful commitment to becoming an Open + Affirming ministry.

Over the course of nine months, South Hills engaged in a thoughtful process of learning, prayer, reflection, and congregational conversation as they discerned what it means to more transparently embody God’s love and welcome. Through educational events, community dialogue, and intentional discernment, the congregation committed itself to becoming a place where all people are seen, valued, and affirmed.

In June 2025, the congregation formally adopted its Inclusion Statement, affirming that God’s love extends to all and that faithful witness today requires welcoming LGBTQIA+ persons, acknowledging a non-binary understanding of gender, and affirming the full humanity and dignity of transgender people. The congregation also affirmed its commitment to support those who have been harmed because of how God created them.

What stands out in South Hills’ journey is their recognition that inclusion is not a destination but an ongoing calling. As they shared with their congregation, this process has been about becoming a more transparently welcoming community—and they understand that the work of learning, growing, and expanding hospitality continues.

We give thanks for the leadership of Rev. Dottie Cook and the people of South Hills Christian Church as they continue living into God’s expansive love and radical welcome.

Pride Month is a vibrant and inclusive celebration that honors the LGBTQ+ community, their history, achievements, and ongoing struggle for equality. This annual event serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of acceptance, diversity, and love. It brings together individuals, organizations, and communities to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and celebrate the progress made towards a more inclusive society. It is a time to acknowledge the challenges faced by this community and to stand in solidarity with their fight for equality, acceptance, and human rights.

Pride Month is a joyful and colorful display of love, unity, and resilience, with events and activities that promote inclusivity, educate the public, and celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities. Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States.
