It is with profound respect and admiration that we honor the extraordinary life and legacy of Reverend James H. Cokley, DMin. Senior Pastor of the Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Conway, SC. For 26 remarkable years, Dr. Cokley served with unwavering faithfulness, exemplifying unparalleled dedication to his calling.
Under his visionary leadership, numerous strides were made. Dr. Cokley spearheaded transformative initiatives that have left an indelible mark on our community. Among his many accomplishments, the establishment of the Samaritan House stands out as a testament to his compassion, providing nourishment and support to those in need. His strategic foresight led to the acquisition of land, buses, and a box truck significantly enhancing the church’s mission capabilities.
Dr. Cokley's influence extended far beyond the pulpit. As President of both the State and National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, he was a stalwart advocate for the power of Christian education, inspiring countless individuals with his profound teachings. His powerful oratory, insightful instruction, and steadfast leadership earned him numerous accolades throughout Conway, SC, and beyond.
One of the pinnacle moments of his illustrious career was during his 25th Pastoral Anniversary when he was bestowed with the Order of the Palmetto by Governor McMasters—a fitting recognition of his exceptional service and contributions.
Dr. Cokley served with integrity that was both unwavering and courageous, consistently speaking truth to power, even in the face of adversity. His legacy is a beacon of light, illuminating the path for future generations.
