The Labor Day Weekend May be a trigger for some; cook outs, family gatherings or a trip out to the lake. During treatment and throughout the recovery process, it can be helpful to write a relapse prevention plan that you can refer to and utilize during challenging moments. This can help you manage triggers and cravings when they arise and help prevent potential relapse. Relapse prevention plans might include strategies such as:

-Talking to friends or family about your cravings
-Talking to a sponsor or attending a meeting
-Utilizing mindfulness exercises
-Engaging in physical exercise
-Spending time with friends who are positive influences in your recovery
-Referring to your list of coping strategies and implementing these techniques
-Using the acronym HALT (hungry, angry, lonely, tired) to check in with yourself and consider if any aspects of self-care are being neglected and should be improved.

We had a great night at Celebrate Recovery this week as we talked about RELAPSE — not just how relapse happens, but how we can recognize the drift before it carries us further than we wanted to go.

Several people shared that there was a lot of content to take in, so I put together a simple handout with the main teaching points, Scripture references, and practical reminders from the lesson.

The handout covers:

* How relapse often begins before the visible fall
* Why renewing our minds with God’s Word matters
* The RELAPSE acrostic from the lesson
* What to do if we stumble
* Why shame tells us to hide, but grace calls us home

You can view or download the handout here:

Recovery is not about living scared.
It is about living awake — noticing the drift, bringing it honestly to God, and staying connected before old patterns pull us back.

You’re not alone, and we’re grateful to walk this road together.
