Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge

Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge We exist to develop a life in Christ, where hope & freedom is found in Him. David Wilkerson started a movement that would change the lives of thousands.

Western MI Adult & Teen Challenge is a faith-based program helping adults overcome life-controlling issues through discipleship, prayer, worship, God’s Word, unity, & gratitude. Teen Challenge is the oldest, largest and most successful ministry of its kind in the world....

In 1958, a young pastor from a farm town in Pennsylvania, took a step of faith into the inner-city of New York City. With a h

eart for young people, he began working with gangs and troubled youth. As he began to establish rapport within the city, he became aware of the life-controlling issues destroying these young people. Everywhere David turned he saw the consequences of addiction: a 16 year old girl working the streets, a 12 year old boy murdered by his younger brother, the sight of a teenage mother with her baby on her lap, begging for food and shelter. The young pastor found himself in a place with no hope and no future: these children had been set up for failure. He knew he had to break the vicious cycle. He had to offer a way out of their trouble and despair. Later that year, the first Teen Challenge Center was established. Wilkerson worked with inner-city youth wanting a different kind of life, other than gangs and drugs. Since 1958, Teen Challenge has seen remarkable growth. Thousands of lives have been changed, TC ministry now exists in 82 countries worldwide with invites from 43 more countries who are asking for our help. There are approximately 202 centers in the United States and 1060 around the world helping children, teens, men, women and families. Teen Challenge strives to help the whole person, not just the substance abuser. In 1963, David Wilkerson co-authored the book, The Cross and the Switchblade. The story covers David's first 5 years in New York and became a best-selling phenomenon. More than 15 million copies have been distributed in over 30 languages. In 1969 a motion picture based on the book, was released. After 45 years, the story continues to inspire renewed faith in God's ability to overcome problems that even the most determined human efforts cannot resolve. Teen Challenge is a Christian-based ministry. The purpose of TC, nationwide, is to help people who have life-controlling problems and initiate the discipleship process to the point where the student can function as a Christian in society. The TC approach is to teach a whole new way of living by addressing family relationships, work attitudes, self-image and esteem, peer pressure, addictions, social issues, community relationship, and a variety of other life skills. Teen Challenge endeavors to help people become mentally sound, emotionally balanced, socially adjusted, physically well, and spiritually alive. The salvation offered by Jesus Christ is the main avenue to create true and lasting changes in a person's life. Teaching students about Christ and leading them to salvation is essential to the work of Teen Challenge.

This past Friday, we were grateful to have the worship team from Life Change Church join us for Community Chapel.

Thank you for leading our students and staff into such a meaningful time of worship. There’s something powerful about coming together in the presence of God, and we’re thankful for teams who are willing to come alongside what God is doing here and serve so faithfully.

We appreciate you pouring into our house and helping create space for people to encounter the Lord in a real and personal way.

This past Friday, we had the privilege of hearing from Pastor Trenton Herald from City Hill Church during Community Chapel.

He shared on the Holy Spirit, drawing from the book of John, and brought a message that was both grounding and encouraging for our students. It was a powerful reminder of the presence, guidance, and power we have through the Spirit in our everyday lives.

Pastor Trent, thank you for taking the time to come in, share the Word, and pour into our house. We’re grateful for leaders who are willing to show up and invest in what God is doing here.

He is risen.

Today, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus; the reason hope is real, freedom is possible, and new life is available to each of us.

At Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge, we see the power of that truth lived out every day. Lives are being restored, chains are being broken, and men and women are stepping into the new life only Christ can offer.

Because of the cross, the story doesn’t end in brokenness.
Because of the empty tomb, everything changes.

Wishing you and your family a blessed Easter.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the privilege of hearing from Pastor John Prominski from Restore Church during Community Chapel.

We’re always grateful for leaders who are willing to come in, share what God has placed on their heart, and take time to invest in our students. There’s something powerful about having outside voices speak truth, encouragement, and perspective into this season of their lives.

Pastor John, thank you for being part of what God is doing here and for pouring into our house in such a meaningful way.

We’re excited to be participating in the Unite to Face Addiction Michigan (UFAM) Rally and standing alongside organizations and advocates from across the state who are committed to addressing addiction with compassion, collaboration, and action.

Gatherings like UFAM matter. They create space for meaningful connection, shared learning, and collective momentum as we work toward stronger pathways of recovery and support for individuals and families.

We’re grateful to be part of the conversation and to represent the life-changing work happening through Christ-centered recovery at Western Michigan Adult & Teen Challenge.

Our pantry plays a vital role in meeting the daily needs of the men and women in our program as they focus on healing, growth, and long-term recovery.

If you’re looking for a practical way to support this work, helping stock our pantry is an easy and meaningful place to start. Whether you drop off a few items, organize a supply drive, or share this need with your church or organization, every contribution makes a difference.
