Mission Trip Update – Camp Day 3
Today began after another short night’s sleep… and yes, another tropical thunderstorm rolled through during the night! Thankfully, everyone was still excited to start the final day of camp.
The campers kicked off the morning with a pancake breakfast before heading out for the Machaca Cup—a camp-wide soccer tournament modeled after the World Cup. The three camper teams competed throughout the morning while our youth served as coaches, referees, encouragers, and enthusiastic fans.
Of course, with another night of heavy rain, the soccer field had turned into a giant mud pit with several inches of mud and standing water. Rather than slowing anyone down, it only added to the excitement! There were plenty of laughs, muddy slides, and unforgettable memories made throughout the tournament.
After the games ended, the campers decided it was only fair that the counselors experience the fun they had been having all morning. One by one, our youth were tackled, pulled, and dragged through the mud by the campers. Needless to say, everyone finished the tournament covered from head to toe—and smiling the entire time!
Following lunch, the campers returned to their cabins to pack their belongings before boarding the bus home. As they left, our team gathered to send them off with hugs, high-fives, cheers, and lots of love.
Once the bus pulled away, our team finally had an opportunity to slow down and catch their breath. Some took well-deserved naps, others joined the local Belizean staff for a game of volleyball, and many simply spent time reflecting on everything God had done throughout camp.
One thing we did for everyone was get fresh coconuts picked straight from the trees on the property to enjoy - a true Belize experience!
The evening was intentionally set aside for much-needed rest and fellowship. After dinner, our youth met with the camp leadership and Belizean staff for a debrief, celebrating what went well during camp while also discussing ways to make future camps even better.
We wrapped up the night with games, laughter, and time together as one team. It was a fitting end to an incredible week of serving side by side.
As we reflect on these past few days, we are so thankful for everything God has done. We watched our youth step outside of their comfort zones, serve selflessly, build meaningful relationships with the campers, and faithfully share the love of Jesus. Thank you for partnering with us through your prayers—they have truly made a difference.
Ps. Julianna mentioned to us that some or most of these kids did not know who God was and she said almost all of them were giving their lives to Jesus throughout the weekend. Praise the Lord for salvation which is what we prayed! thank you Heavenly Father for saving through your precious son Jesus. We are forever grateful!
