It's hard, when we see the worst humanity has to offer. Remaining open and soft, when it seems like world seeks only to make our hearts bitter and cold. We cannot stop the awful acts that are commited, but we can act as the soft spaces for people. We can ensure that our pursuit of justice doesn't become vengeance and hate. We can be the voice of reason when the only voices that echo come from hubris and ego. We can hold up the people who need us to.

I will not always have the answers, even when I want them or need them. But I didn't take the job because it's easy. I took it to be of service even through the worst of atrocities. The moment I stop recognizing even those who are opposite of me, have their own humanity, I stop understanding my calling.

If religion it is to be worth holding on to, it should be the place where the marginalized feel the most visible, where the hurting receive the most tender care, where the outsiders find the safest refuge.

It should be the place where diversity is fiercely pursued and equality loudly championed; where all of humanity finds a permanent home and where justice runs the show.
