Jim Foreman leads this week with: God is Merciful
Definition:
One of God’s attributes is being Merciful. The definition of merciful is compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm. Mercy can be displayed in many ways including forgiveness, healing and comfort. God blesses us by providing mercy to each one of us, regardless of our past or how big a mistake we may make, God’s mercy is bigger. His mercy is with us day in and day out and it isn’t dependent upon circumstances. In Psalm 23:6 we read: “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
We should find comfort in knowing this about God as He will never change, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
(Hebrews 13:8)

Jesus Our High Priest Prays for Unity
Definition: In John 17, Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, He asked that His followers would demonstrate unity (solidarity) to the world: “I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as You are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe You sent Me” (John 17:21, NLT). Our unity and love for each other are to demonstrate God’s love to the world. This kind of oneness of heart and soul in the body of Christ is only possible through the Holy Spirit’s enabling. (Ephesians 4:1-6)

Christ our Mediator (Peacemaker, Intercessor)
Definition: Mediation, in the biblical context, refers to the act of intervening or interceding between two parties to reconcile differences or to bring about a desired outcome. In the Scriptures, mediation often involves a person who stands between God and humanity to facilitate communication, reconciliation, or the fulfillment of divine purposes.

Trudy Thomas leads this week with: The God to Whom We Surrender
Definition: Surrender is a battle term. It implies giving up all rights to the conqueror. When an opposing army surrenders, they lay down their arms, and the winners take control from then on. Surrendering to God works the same way. God has a plan for our lives, and surrendering to Him means we set aside our own plans and eagerly seek His. The good news is that God’s plan for us is always in our best interest unlike our own plans that often lead to destruction. Our Lord is a wise and beneficent victor; He conquers us to bless us. Romans 6:13 says that God demands that we surrender the totality of ourselves; He wants the whole, not a part: “Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to Him as an instrument of righteousness.” Jesus said that His followers must deny themselves (Mark 8:34)—another call to surrender. The goal of the Christian life can be summed up by Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Such a life of surrender is pleasing to God, results in the greatest human fulfillment, and will reap ultimate rewards in heaven.

President Trump Calls To “Rededicate America”
Back to God May 17, 2026
President Donald Trump announced at the 74th annual National Prayer Breakfast in January that on May 17, 2026, there will be a major prayer event held on the National Mall to “rededicate America as one nation under God.”
The special prayer event is part of America’s 250th birthday celebration titled, “Rededicate 250: National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise, and Thanksgiving.” The 12-hour sacred dedication event promises that “In speech, song, and storytelling, we will bear witness to the extraordinary story of how God has powerfully and wonderfully shaped the United States of America — remembering the people, sacrifices, and defining moments in which God has powerfully manifested Himself in our history.”
President Trump has invited Americans from across the country to come together on the National Mall on that day to pray, praise, and give thanks. During the announcement, he noted a spiritual renewal and rising church attendance in America. He praised this trend declaring that “to be a great nation…you have to have faith” and “you have to have God.”
The Continental Congress had declared May 17, 1776, a national day of fasting and prayer before the Founders signed the Declaration of Independence.
“Almost 250 years after our Founding Fathers took one of the greatest leaps of faith in human history…it reminds us that prayers strengthen, prayers heal, prayer empowers and prayer saves,” said President Trump. “Quite simply, prayer is America’s superpower.”
In his hour-long speech, President Trump also made a second announcement that the Department of Education has new guidance intended to protect the right of teachers and students to pray and express their faith in public schools.
“Public schools must permit students to pray privately and quietly by themselves, whether in class, at an athletic event, or before a meal,” reads the guidance. “Students may also pray in a speaking voice on the same terms as any other student might engage in non-religious speech.”
The new guidance also stipulated that students must be allowed to express their religious faith in assignments, and at school events when they are permitted to speak. Also, school employees can pray at work on the same terms as the students, states the guidance.
The Department of Education ultimately directed schools take a “general principle of neutrality toward religion” as not to prefer or discriminate between religious and secular groups, activities, or expression.

Daniel Luz leads this week with: God - Our Great Physician
Definition: The Bible portrays God as intimately involved in the healing process, not only addressing physical ailments but also emotional and spiritual needs. Jesus’ ministry demonstrated this through miracles of healing, showing compassion and restoring wholeness to individuals. Faith, prayer, and obedience are emphasized as ways to access God’s healing power, and the scriptures encourage believers to trust in His love and mercy during times of sickness or distress. The Bible presents God, and specifically Jesus, as the Great Physician who heals the sick, binds the brokenhearted, and restores both body and spirit.

Jim Foreman leads this week with: God is Wisdom
Definition: One of God’s attributes is “wisdom.” The dictionary tells us that wisdom is the ability to contemplate and act productively using knowledge, experience, understanding, common sense, and insight. The wisdom that God has is unmeasurable, the depth of it is something that we can’t fathom. To know absolutely everything there is to know, including what each of us is thinking and what each of us is going to do before it even occurs is difficult for us to put our minds around. James 1:5 reads: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Having wisdom is something we can pray for and it’s something that God not only wants to give us but wants to give us generously as illustrated.

National Day of Prayer May 7, 2026
"Tell of His glory among the nations,
His wonderful deeds among all the peoples."
1 Chronicles 16:24
“The 2026 National Day of Prayer Theme is inspired by a passionate prayer of Thanksgiving, prayed by King David in 1 Chronicles 16 after bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This chapter records Israel celebrating the return of the Ark after being separated for 70 years earlier. While God was always watching over Israel and just a prayer away from them and King David, the Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of God having been constructed at the command of God and carried by the Levites with Moses as they wandered and waited to enter the Promised Land and eventually stolen from the tabernacle in Shiloh at their defeat in the battle in Ebenezer.”
