🔰 *Introduction*
Islam provides its followers with spiritual opportunities throughout the year to draw closer to Allah. Among these, the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah stand out as some of the most blessed days, filled with virtues and divine mercy. These days are a blend of worship, remembrance, sacrifice, patience, and spiritual strengthening of the believer’s connection with the Creator.
📖 *In the Light of the Qur'an and Hadith*
Allah says in Surah Al-Fajr:
"By the dawn, and [by] the ten nights..."
(Surah Al-Fajr: 1–2)
Most scholars agree that these "ten nights" refer to the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
*The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said*:
“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”
The companions asked, “Not even Jihad in the path of Allah?”
He ﷺ replied:
“Not even Jihad, except for a man who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with nothing.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari)
🌟 Four Pillars of Islam United
These ten days uniquely combine four of the five pillars of Islam
Declaration of Tawheed (Monotheism) – as part of dhikr (remembrance)
Salah (Prayer)
Sawm (Fasting) – especially on the Day of Arafah
Hajj (Pilgrimage)
Such a combination of major acts of worship does not occur in any other time of the year.
🌄 *Arafah*: The Day of Salvation
The 9th of Dhul-Hijjah is the Day of Arafah — the central day of Hajj and a day of immense forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Fasting on the day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.”
(Sahih Muslim)
📿 *Dhikr*: The Soul of These Days
These blessed days are not just about formal rituals, but also about purifying the heart and tongue through constant remembrance of Allah. Engage your heart with Tasbeeh (SubhanAllah), Tahleel (La ilaha illa Allah), Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), Takbeer (Allahu Akbar), and Istighfar (seeking forgiveness).
The Prophet ﷺ instructed:
“During these days, increase in saying: ‘Allahu Akbar’, ‘La ilaha illa Allah’, ‘Alhamdulillah’, and ‘SubhanAllah’.”
(Musnad Ahmad)
📣 *Takbeerat of Tashreeq*
From Fajr of the 9th until Asr of the 13th Dhul-Hijjah, it is wajib (obligatory) to recite the Takbeer aloud after every obligatory prayer:
"Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah,
Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa Lillahil-hamd."
Men should recite it aloud, and women should recite it softly.
🌱 *Benefits of Dhikr* (Remembrance of Allah)
Tranquility of the heart
Forgiveness of sins
Multiplication of rewards
Closeness to Allah
Protection from Shaytan
Reinforcement of servitude to Allah
🐑 *The Spirit of Sacrifice*
The 10th day is Eid al-Adha, commemorating the noble Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Sacrifice is not merely about the slaughter of animals — it symbolizes the sacrifice of desires, heedlessness, and ego.
Allah says:
“It is neither their meat nor their blood that reaches Allah, but it is your piety that reaches Him.”
(Surah Al-Hajj: 37)
📌 *Conclusion*
These ten days are not just days of outward acts of worship — they are a means for inner purification, spiritual training, and renewing one's bond with Allah. If we fill these days with prayer, fasting, remembrance, repentance, salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ, and sincere sacrifice, they can become a source of eternal success and salvation.
🤲 *Du'a*
O Allah, make us among those who remember You abundantly, who are devout, who repent sincerely, and who are accepted in Your presence. Make our actions purely for Your sake. Let us benefit from the virtues of these days, and guide us to what You love and are pleased with. Ameen, Ya Rabb al-'Alameen.
