Alhamdulillah, MMY held our first Tennessee Government & Civic Engagement 101 gathering last week! 💙

This was the first step in our new MMY Civic Engagement Group, created to help our community learn together, ask questions, and better understand how local government works.

Civic engagement is not only about elections. It is about knowing who represents us, understanding how decisions are made, and learning how to advocate for the needs of our families, neighbors, and community.

Our faith calls us to care about justice, service, and the well-being of the people around us. That includes feeding the hungry, supporting families in need, standing for what is good, and learning how to participate thoughtfully in the systems that shape our daily lives.

This group is nonpartisan and not affiliated with any political party. Our goal is simple: to learn, connect, participate, and grow as a more informed and engaged community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this first gathering. We look forward to continuing this work together, one step at a time, insha’Allah.

Dabkeh Training is coming to the MMY Center THIS WEEK!

Starting on Wednesday, August 12, you can join Layali El Sham Dabkeh Group for a 15-session training program, designed for males aged 13 and up.

Participants will learn traditional Dabkeh steps, rhythm, coordination, formations, and group performance skills while building confidence and teamwork.

This year, we're dedicating Giving Thanks by Giving 2026 to the memory of Stephanie Hill, one of the first people who helped make this Thanksgiving tradition possible. 🍂

Eleven years ago, the Murfreesboro Muslim Youth held our very first Giving Thanks by Giving event. That year, with the help of people like Stephanie, we served Thanksgiving meals to 10 families.

Stephanie was one of the first people to say yes. She stepped in, cooked one of the first donated turkeys, and helped plant the seeds for what has become one of MMY’s largest annual service efforts.

Last year, this same effort helped us serve more than 1,100 people across Murfreesboro. This year, in Stephanie’s honor, our goal is to serve 1,200 neighbors with warm Thanksgiving meals.

We usually wait until October to invite donations and volunteers for Giving Thanks by Giving, but this year felt different. Because Stephanie was part of the beginning, we are opening the donation page early as a way to honor her kindness, generosity, and the role she played in helping this tradition begin.

On Thanksgiving Day, MMY will prepare, pack, and deliver warm Thanksgiving meals to families facing hardship, neighbors experiencing homelessness, shelters, first responders, and Meals on Wheels recipients. 💛

Our thoughts and prayers are with Stephanie’s family, friends, and everyone who loved her. We are grateful for the compassion she shared with MMY and with our community, and we pray this year’s Giving Thanks by Giving continues her legacy of service.

What does it feel like to carry your faith into every classroom, workplace, friendship, and public space?

For many Muslim youth, there can be an invisible pressure to always explain, represent, defend, or “get it right,” even while still figuring out who they are.

This Friday, MMY Youth Series invites you to a special conversation with Dr. Amin Asfari on **The Invisible Pressure: Representing Islam 24/7.

We’ll talk about faith, identity, belonging, Islamophobia, and the real challenges Muslim youth face while navigating the world around them.

There will be time for a lecture, open Q&A, refreshments, and community.
