Looking to help our community? This is a great opportunity!!!

If you missed your chance today, registration continues tomorrow from 9AM-1PM, as well as Monday through Thursday next week from 9AM-4PM.

GoServ Global is a nonprofit organization specializing in disaster relief, and they will be helping with debris cleanup on residential properties. All of this will be provided at no charge to Highland residents.

Daily Update – Friday, August 21, 2026

Good morning Munster! Here are today’s reminders as recovery continues. Please note these are also posted on Town Hall’s doors, the Social Center, and Fire Station 2. We are also sending out a weekly summary via email (sign up at www.munster.org) and posted on our website.

Cooling & Charging Center
Open at the Munster Lions Social Center from 8AM to 10PM.
Free food from 12–6PM
Water available all day
Food will be available today, Saturday, and Sunday

Report Storm Damage
Please call 211 to report any storm damage. This helps connect you to resources, and disaster reports help secure reimbursement funds that are reinvested in our recovery.

Water Safety
Munster's water is safe to drink, and there is no boil order in effect. Town water quality has been tested. There has been a water main break on Fran Lin, between Columbia and Oriole. Crews are actively working and we ask that you please avoid the area as they work. Some homes and businesses in Munster may temporarily be without water as we repair this.

Tree & Debris Guidelines
Public property: The Town will remove trees and debris from parkways and other public spaces.
Private property: If a tree fell on private property and came from private property, the homeowner is responsible for removal.
Public property, private origin: If a tree fell on public property, even if it came from a resident's yard, the Town will remove it.
Utility easements: Not handled by the Town.
Curbside branches: Leave branches at the curb, separate from trash and recycling, and keep them clear of storm drains.
Contractors: Contractors are responsible for removing their own debris, and it will not be collected by Public Works.

Dumpsters & Trash Pickup
Homewood Disposal has not canceled service this week, and pickup should continue on its normal schedule. Three alleys are currently inaccessible, and we're working to clear them.

Beech Ave, along Beech Park
Baring Ave and River Drive
Park Drive and Linden Ave.
Frank Hammond Park
Washington Circle and Delaware Pkwy
For large furniture, branches, and other bulky items, box trucks are available at:
Grove Park, 8201 Tapper Ave., Munster, IN 46321
Near Humane Indiana Shelter and Adoption Center, Kennedy Ct., off 45th St.

Please use caution when loading the box trucks, and place items as far back as possible.

Our next Lasagna Love bake and delivery event has been rescheduled from August 21st to Friday, September 4th at 10 am due to on-going power outage.

If you’d like to help, we need:

➡️ Volunteers to brown 5lbs of meat (provided by church) at home and return it to our kitchen

➡️ Volunteers to assemble and bake lasagnas at 10 am

➡️ Volunteers to deliver 5 hot lasagnas to our neighbors across Lake County (rolling delivery times as lasagnas are baked off)
