11:00 AM WORSHIP SERVICE In 1878, the first building was dedicated. The first pastor was Reverend Aza Davis. The first building was replaced by the present one in 1925. Effie Davison Robison, whose father was one of the church’s pastors, when
the new church building was built, each family set aside one acre of their cotton crop to help pay for it. As the crop came ready for harvest, the young people from the church gathered the cotton. With the proceeds from the cotton plus other donations, the congregation was able to pay for the building in one year. The dedication of the new building was combined with the first celebration in 1926. Various other pastors who have served the congregation were Reverend Holman, Reverend E.G Pennington, Reverend Ludie P. Davidson, Reverend M.D Bishop, Reverend Henry Mozingo, and Reverend Delbert Taylor. Brother Aubrey L. Spires has pastured the church since 1966. Although historical records indicate that, in 1907, there were 208 members; most were lost when Camp Howze forced the sale of the farms and the relocation of the families. At present, there are twenty-eight resident members and twenty-nine non-resident members, making a total of fifty-seven. Attendance averages around sixteen. Since there is no baptistery in the building, baptism are held at Fish Creek southeast of the Marysville where they have been held for the most part since the church’s beginning. On occasion, however, during unfavorable weather, other Cooke County baptisteries have been used. The above passage was taken from the 1992 History Cooke County Texas, Cooke County History Past and Present. Aubrey Spires has since retired. The current Pastor is John Brooks and wife, Beth Brooks.
