Awaken the Soul: Journey through Lent

Lent is one of those sacred moments when God invites us to slow down. It is a journey inward before it becomes a journey forward, and it calls us to awaken the soul.

In Scripture, we see that God often meets people in quiet and hidden places. Moses encountered Him in the wilderness. Elijah heard His voice in a whisper.

Jesus often withdrew to lonely places to pray. These were the soil where strength was formed and purpose clarified for many saints of old. Lent carries that same invitation for us today.

To awaken the soul is to become aware again of the presence of God. It is worth noticing the ways He has been walking beside us, even when our hearts felt distracted. It is to pause long enough to see what has grown heavy within us.

Sometimes we discover the fear we have carried for years. Other times, we see the weight of unspoken grief or the restlessness of striving. So, God exposes these things during Lent so He can heal and restore us.

This journey is also about returning to our first love. Over time, faith can become familiar and distant. Words that once stirred us begin to feel routine. Yet the Holy Spirit continues to call us deeper.

Lent invites us to rediscover wonder, to remember the beauty of grace, to sit with the story of the cross until it touches us again in a fresh way. Not only this, it asks us to reflect on the power of Resurrection, how it transformed the first disciples, and how it can transform us and make us better
witnesses for Christ.

As you continue walking through this Lenten season, allow space for reflection. Sit with Scripture. Speak honestly to God in prayer. Listen more than you talk. Let silence become a friend. In these quiet places, the soul awakens, and hope is renewed.

The road to resurrection always passes through surrender. Yet surrender is never the end. It leads to life. It leads to freedom. It leads to joy that rises stronger than sorrow.

May this Lenten journey awaken your heart, steady your faith, and prepare you to experience the fullness of Christ’s life in ways that surprise and transform you in Jesus’ name, Amen!

Stay blessed,

Enough Light for the Next Step

Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

This past week, we were all checking the weather forecast. We wanted to know exactly how the weekend would unfold. We watched the predictions, hoping for certainty about the approaching Arctic storm. Now, the storm is here. It is bringing snow, closing roads, and even causing many local churches to close this morning. We knew it was coming. But knowing did not remove the disruption; it only said we would have to walk through it.

If you have ever wished for clarity or wanted to see the entire path before starting, you are not alone. Our longing for certainty is deeply human. Yet, God does not often work with us on our terms. He offers something much smaller than the map and full visibility we hope for. He gives a simple lamp, just bright enough to show where to place our feet next. The core truth of Psalm 119:105 is that God invites us to move forward one step at a time. He teaches us to trust the light He gives for each moment.

In the ancient world, a lamp did not reveal the destination. It kept you from falling into the dark. That detail is expedient. God’s wisdom rarely removes uncertainty. Instead, it removes confusion.

Most of our anxiety comes from wanting outcomes before obedience. We want to know how the story ends before taking the next step. God works differently with us. His wisdom steadies the mind. It clarifies what faithfulness looks like right now and right here.

Think about how a lamp works. A lamp does not rush you. It slows you down, asks you to watch where you place your feet, and trains your discernment. Wisdom grows this way, step by step and choice by choice. In the same way, God’s word does not overwhelm you with answers. It quietly forms you with truth. It lovingly teaches how life works. When you let it shape your heart, you stop chasing certainty. You start practicing trust.

Because of this, we do not need to know the entire future. The main message here is that we need God's guidance for today, patience for each conversation, integrity at all times, and faithfulness in the present. As believers, we are called to walk in daily trust, not in total certainty.

Each step reveals the next. The path opens in obedience.

So, this week, choose one area of your life where you feel stuck or unsure. Resist the urge to solve everything at once. Instead, ask a simpler question. What is the next faithful step I already know I should take? It might be a hard conversation you have been avoiding. It could be a habit you need to realign. It may be a boundary you need to honor, or a small act of obedience that feels ordinary but costly. Write that step down. Pray Psalm 119:105 slowly. Then act on what the light has already shown you. Do not wait for clarity about the outcome. Wisdom grows when obedience comes first. God’s light leads and follows our obedient movement.

Friends, God’s word is near. His light is on.
Take the next step today—commit, trust, act, and boldly follow the light God gives you. Let each faithful action draw you closer to God’s purpose for your life. Move forward now with confidence.

Each step matters. Move forward in faith.

Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, calm my longing for certainty. Teach my heart to trust Your light. Walk with me today and this week. Help me take each step in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I call you blessed,

The God Who Meets Us in the Quiet

Psalm 46:10: “Be still, and know that I am God.”

Church family,

Today feels different. The snow has pushed everyone indoors, and the sanctuary sits quiet. There are no handshakes, no choir warming up, no kids rushing down the hallway. Just the soft hush of winter settling in while we’re scattered across living rooms and kitchen tables. And somehow, days like this remind us of something we forget when life runs too fast: God is here, even in the stillness.

Snow slows everything down. Roads close. Plans fall through. The usual noise dims. And in that strange pause, it feels like God leans in and says, “Breathe.”

Psalm 46 opens with the chaos of quaking ground, roaring waters, and nations shaking, but it ends with a simple line: “Be still, and know that I am God.” The contrast almost stops you. The world keeps rumbling, yet the soul hears something softer. Stillness becomes a kind of sanctuary.

Maybe that’s the quiet gift of today.
Not the one we planned, but the one we needed.

A moment to whisper a prayer from your couch.

A reminder that our refuge isn’t found in routines but in God Himself.

A chance to notice His nearness in ordinary spaces of a warm room, a slow morning, the muted sound of snow against the windows.

And a gentle truth: nothing, not snow, not separation, can pull us away from His care.

So, while you move through this snow-covered day, take a brief moment to sit with God. No rushing. No multitasking. Let the quiet be your offering. Let His peace find you right where you are. And let the Spirit settle your heart with the reminder that Christ holds His church close, even when the building is empty.

Let us pray: Lord, meet us right here at home today. Still the places inside us that feel anxious, and speak peace into the areas that feel shaken. Thank You for being our refuge in every season, in the storms outside, and the storms we carry within. Slow us down long enough to know You again, and warm our spirits with the nearness of Your love.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stay warm. Stay safe. And may the peace of Christ hold you close today.

I call you blessed,
Jemiriye Fakunle

God’s Truth Sets Your Heart Free

John 8:32: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

There comes a moment in every believer’s life when God gently exposes something we believed that never came from Him. A lie about our worth. A lie about our future. A lie about what we can or cannot overcome. These quiet lies attach themselves to our identity without our permission, and before we know it, they shape how we think, speak, and hope.

Jesus offers something completely different. He says that freedom begins with truth, not with our feelings or fears. Truth speaks louder than insecurity, louder than shame, and louder than the stories we tell ourselves when life feels heavy.

His truth tells you that you are loved.
His truth tells you that your past cannot define you.
His truth tells you that you are stronger than the battle in front of you.
His truth tells you that God’s plan for your life still has power.

Every time you read Scripture, pray, or sit quietly with God, He reveals another layer of truth that pushes lies out of your heart. Freedom is not always an instant moment. Sometimes it is a daily unveiling of who God says you are.

If you feel weighed down today, ask God to show you the truth that sets you free. He is not angry with you. He is not disappointed in you. He is committed to your freedom and your healing.

Prayer: Lord, reveal Your truth to me today. Replace every lie with Your voice. Lead me into the freedom You prepared for me in Jesus’ name, Amen.

I call you blessed,

Love That Reaches You Right Where You Are

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, so everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

We hear this verse so often that it can feel familiar, but when you pause long enough to let the words settle, something powerful rises in your heart. This is not a verse about a distant God watching from the sidelines. It is a reminder of a God who moved toward you with intention and tenderness.

Think about it. God did not wait for the world to heal itself. He did not wait for humanity to climb toward Him with perfect behavior. He stepped in with love that reached all the way into our broken places. His gift was not a small effort or a shallow gesture. It was His Son, given freely so we could experience a life anchored in grace.

There are days when you may question your worth. Days when you feel unseen or overwhelmed. Yet John 3:16 speaks into those moments with a steady voice. You matter to God. You are loved with a love that does not weaken with time or fade under pressure. You are held by a promise that reaches far beyond today.

Let this truth breathe hope into your spirit: God’s love is not a theory. It is a gift that continues to change lives one heart at a time.

Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me completely. Help me receive the fullness of Your gift and live in the confidence of Your unfailing love in Jesus’ name, Amen.

I call you blessed,
Jemiriye Fakunle
