Before Florida, Ian tore through Cuba where the people are already suffering under great inflation, food shortages, and other difficulties. Hear the prayer from one Christian leader there: "When will this all end? Everyone is suffering, especially the families with small children, who are constantly asking for bread and milk. And what about the elderly who are living their last years on this earth? Or the students, who are too tired and hungry to go to school and work toward their future? But, what future? What is that? How do employees even find the will to go to work? There is no good future for us on the horizon. But, we trust the Lord and His Word, because for those who love God, all things work together for good, and these present afflictions cannot compare to the future glory."

“You need to go back to your passport country for your safety.”

“I’m sorry, but I can’t do that,” was her reply.

“L” has served 16 years providing shelter, care, advocacy, and the gospel to the most marginalized women, children and youth on the streets of a large city in Ukraine. Now, with war and upheaval before her, she looks at the small group of women and children under her care, and knows she needs to continue that shepherding. With just a few suitcases and backpacks, they were able to find initial shelter in a Catholic Seminary Retreat in the country, but soon they knew they needed to leave for a neighboring country. Along the way to another shelter there, they had to leave one of their ladies in a hospital for important brain surgery. As we write this letter, they are still awaiting news on the outcome of that surgery. Please pray for “L” and her little group… so disconnected from all they have known, not speaking the local language, and wondering what is ahead. She said that there have been some very kind nationals who have ministered to them, and she is leaning into the Lord for His strength and leading. “L” pleads with us all to remember to pray for Ukraine!

Action has people “on the ground” and others well-connected with pastors presently reaching out to their communities with food, water, housing and the hospel of HOPE! If you would like to contribute to the fund that has been set up to provide for that grass-roots practical care, find the link here. https://www.actioninternational.org/onetime-projects-detail/ukrainerelief

Over the next week, we'll update how ACTION is working to support the Ukrainian church.

"Please pray for the family of pastor Anatoly. At only 26 years of age he has been promoted to be with Christ. He was in Irpin (near Kyiv) helping women and children onto the bus, trying to move them to safety. Seeing the column of refugees, the invaders sent mortar fire. Anatoly was hit by a mortar shell and died immediately. At the funeral his wife Diana expressed her gratitude to God, 'I’m happy that God gave me the destiny to be the wife of such a man. A hero.'"

Donate in Crypto ACTION is currently ministering to people both in Ukraine and also in Poland:  In Ukraine, ACTION is working with contacts at five church-based shelters to provide practical, emotional, and spiritual help to internally displaced people and refugees as they make they way westward. In a context of devastation caused by hatred, our weapons are love and compassion. This is having a profound effect on others (John 13:35).

If you or your church are able and would like to join with us to provide help, care, and encouragement, please do so by giving through the ACTION website or your local ACTION office. Thank you.

And here is an update from one of our workers in Ukraine:

While there are many Ukrainians who have been able to flee West towards other borders and to camps, there are many who were unable to leave due to lack of a car, finances, and vulnerable family members at home. Now many, who were already counted among the marginalized of Ukraine, are stranded in a country now besieged by war. Without the ability to work under peaceful conditions and no savings, they do not have the ability to purchase essential items such as food and medical supplies. They also cannot pay their rent or other bills, in addition to bearing the burden of the enormous cost and threat of war.

These relief funds will help support the relief efforts on the ground through a local church in a southeastern Ukrainian city to provide essentials, such as food, clean drinking water, and medical supplies, for both the church and the poor, vulnerable, and now war-struck people. Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV) says; “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” ??Every day our church is receiving more requests to help with food and essential supplies. By helping to care for the most vulnerable, we are showing Christ’s love and care in a time of deep suffering.

Thank you for your willingness to give toward the compassionate ministries of the local church in Ukraine and for your fervent prayers, which make it possible to provide hope and help on the ground in the name of Christ.

An ACTION field worker in the Ukraine is stuck at the border of Poland. She is accompanied by three women, two disabled physically and one mentally, as well as three children. Pray for wisdom, protection, and for a way to get across the border as soon as possible.
