You are welcomed to join in worship, fellowship, and service as we grow together in faith & grace. Tabor Lutheran Church of Mountain, Wisconsin has a rich legacy rooted in faith and fellowship. It was originally organized in 1904 as the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church, with worship services first held in members’ homes. In May 1908, construction began on a dedicated church building, which was
completed by September 20 that same year. Early pastoral care was provided by visiting clergy from Marinette and Peshtigo, with student pastors often leading services in the summer months. In 1909, the congregation was officially incorporated as the Independent Scandinavian Lutheran Church, and the first confirmation was celebrated on April 13 of that year. Five years later, in 1914, the church joined the Augustana Synod and was rededicated as Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church. The official dedication was held October 26–27, 1914, following a special meeting to formalize incorporation with the State of Wisconsin. Throughout the decades, the church grew in mission and community outreach. The first Sunday School report was recorded on April 14, 1925. On October 7, 1941, the Ladies Aid hosted a memorable Lumberjack Supper. A parsonage was constructed in 1946, with Rev. Peterson becoming its first resident. Major transitions followed: in 1958, the congregation voted to become a free Lutheran church, and on April 22, 1960, it officially joined the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod. Plans for a new church building were approved in 1977, with construction beginning in June 1978. The new sanctuary was dedicated on April 29, 1979, just months before the celebration of Tabor’s 75th anniversary in October. In April 1999, Tabor and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed formed a dual parish, strengthening their shared mission and outreach in the community.
