🔥IT WAS GOOD THAT I WAS AFFLICTED🔥”Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word.” — Psalm 119:67
In seasons of comfort, it is easy to become self-reliant. When health is strong, finances are stable, and life is going well, we can forget that every good and perfect gift comes from God. Like Nebuchadnezzar, we may be tempted to say, “Look what I have accomplished,” rather than acknowledging the One who gives us the power to prosper.
Pastor Maureen Thomas reminds us that affliction is NOT ALWAYS punishment - it is often God's loving discipline, drawing His children back to Himself. Through trials, we learn that our confidence cannot rest in wealth, status, or our own strength, for these can disappear in a moment. Instead, affliction teaches us to lean on the unchanging Word of God, seek His face in prayer, and depend wholly on the Lord for our help.
Like David, we discover that what seemed painful can become a pathway to DEEPER INTIMACY with God. It was good to be afflicted, because it drove us to the secret place, strengthened our faith, and reminded us that our help comes from the Lord alone.
Sometimes the very thing we pray to escape is the thing God uses to DRAW US CLOSER to His heart.
