Dear Parents and Guardians of our wonderful seminary students,
We are all so excited for another year of seminary! As school is starting next week on August 14th, we wanted you to be informed of a few key policies, expectations, and updates here at the seminary to help ensure a Spirit-filled and educationally successful environment.
Cell Phone Policy: We will be strictly following a near identical approach to the school regarding cell phones and other devices: If a cell phone, ear buds, iPad, switch, laptop, etc., is used during class time (without prior teacher permission), it will be confiscated for the remainder of the school day. Students who have their device confiscated may retrieve their device after school at the seminary front office.
Please note that the seminary doors are locked for the day at 3:00 pm. If the device is not claimed by then, they will have to wait until the following school day.
Personal Paper Scriptures: We strongly encourage each seminary student to come with their own paper copy of the scriptures, along with a basic set of marking utensils. They are welcome to store their scriptures and supplies in the back cubbies of the classroom.
For years, I have loved using Crayola Twistables to mark my scriptures -https://www.walmart.com/ip/Crayola-Twistable-Colored-Pencils-12-Count/16904583
Others prefer a simple multicolored pen - https://www.walmart.com/ip/4-Pack-0-5mm-6-in-1-Multicolor-Ballpoint-Pen-6-Colors-Retractable-Ballpoint-Pens/5246329144
The seminary can provide a red pen and/or pencil for each student.
If students have their own scriptures they use often at home and don't want to haul them back and forth each day. Then we suggest purchasing a cheaper set just for seminary. The value of having a personal set of scriptures for seminary cannot be overstated. Tardies & Absences: When your student is absent and you've called the high school to excuse them, the high school does NOT tell us. As tedious as it is, the seminary needs our own phone call or email excusing your student's absence, or it will remain an "unexcused absence" even if you previously excused it at the high school.
The school's policy, which the seminary will adopt this year, is that a student is considered absent if they are more than 10 minutes late to class. Students who come this late to class should not expect to be counted present.
Faculty: Unlike in years past, we will not have any student teachers this year. Our excellent teaching staff now consists of Sister Audrey Thompson, Brother Brian Lindow, and Brother Spencer Magleby, each of whom is a well-qualified and skilled teacher!
We thank you again for trusting your child with us as we do our best to strengthen our students' testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored gospel through the scriptures and the words of the living prophets. We love the work and the Lord and are thrilled to be a part of our students' spiritual experience during these pivotal years of their lives. If you need to get a hold of us for any reason, please call 435-462-2685 or email our amazing administrative assistant, [email protected].
With love,
