From Our Table To Yours
As I begin my day I am reflecting on yesterday's time around The Table and praying that wisdom’s cry will be heard. I am reminded of the responsibility I took on when I followed God’s leading in my life to be a pastor, and the accountability I have before God to faithfully proclaim God's wisdom from His Word for the good of His people. It is my God-ordained duty to “rightfully or skillfully” disseminate God’s wisdom to His church. I am not to be a pastor given to simply preaching messages that please the congregation and seek to tickle their ears, but to equip the church with the Truth necessary to fulfilling God’s purpose in and through their lives—which is to prepare you to do the work of the ministry, to support you in your endeavor to mature your faith, and to prevent you from being carried away by false doctrines. (Ephesians 4:11-16) I started yesterday’s message with the following quote:

“The gates of Knowledge and Wisdom are closed, and they are opened only to the knock of Reverence.”
The Expositor’s Bible

That “knock of reverence” can be summed up in four words found in next week's passage of Proverbs 2.
• Receive- to seize or be
open armed
• Hide - lay up for future
use
• Incline - lean into or
heed
• Apply - to make good
use of

The benefits and blessings to be found in the pursuit of wisdom are immeasurable. Neglect thereof ultimately leads one to a twisted and destructive end.

Read chapter two each day and then take groups of 3 or 4 verses each day and sit and let the wisdom from them soak-in. Store up those thoughts; lean into them, and decide how they apply to your life this week.

A little extra from my musings…

Through some additional reading, I was challenged on how my faith is impacting not just my own life, but my family and community. Are there any tangible ways that you can see the impact of your faith on others? Remember with what Matthew 5:13-16 challenges us:

13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

I believe the current spiritual climate of our nation is in direct correlation to the ineffectiveness of the church’s impact on our society. The words “so shine” speak to an intentionality that is lacking in the minds of many believers today. We have long accepted a place of quiet existence that has lacked a voice in the public arena. Wisdom needs to cry in our day and we must give it voice. Not an angry voice, but an informed, equipped, and loving voice. These thoughts were given seed by some things things written in a publication from “American Renewal Project:”

“Is my city or region looking more like the Kingdom or the domain of darkness?” Question from a Missouri Pastor

"Can a nation born of ordered liberty sustain that liberty after cutting itself off from the very roots from which liberty grew?" Os Guinness (Theologian and author)

“…freedom is not a roadside w**d; it is a cultivated orchid. It does not spring up unaided from any soil. Liberty requires a moral climate, constitutional safeguards, and a people formed in virtue.

Ignore those conditions, and the garden does not produce ordered liberty; it produces w**ds. And the w**ds of lawlessness, license, and tyranny now sprouting from the seeds of secularism are far more dangerous than anything growing in the fields of yesteryear."

Secularism is the result of the absence of religious influence. The belief that something can retain its morality apart from God is misguided. In my estimation, it is a society ruled by the simple, scorner, and fool and has no true moral compass. It is rooted in relativism in that it accepts that there is no superior truth and ultimately leads to a society where every man does what is right in his own eyes. It leads a nation down a path of debauchery, death, and destruction like the one found in Genesis 6.

So, what is your place? You are the conduit of God’s wisdom in order that it can have voice in the public arena. Our liberties will not stand without that voice. And that voice will not be heard without equipping ourselves with God’s wisdom and the courage to proclaim it! We best consider our part in being wisdom’s voice when we ask God to bless America again.

Just an hour away to Learn to Pray. Don’t be late for a very important date! Let your feet hit the sod and go meet with God! You're Invited to join us Sunday morning at 9:30 AM for a two part series called “Lord Teach Us To Pray.” Services are held at Holiday Inn and Suites conference room located at 5278 East Pickard Street, Mount Pleasant, MI.

As I take a few minutes this morning and consider the messages that will be coming your way over the next two weeks on prayer, I am reminded how easy it can be to get "caught up" in life and forget to do it. A couple of verses that come to mind are:

Luk 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

and...

1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

I want to encourage us to be persistent and constant in our prayer life. Prayer is a reflection of our view of God. When we do it, it shows dependence on God as the source for all that we need, for it is in him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:8) He is the one from whom all that is truly good comes. (James 1:17) Prayer reflects an esteem for God, while a lack of it is somewhat a gauge that our opinion of God is diminishing. You might say wait, I just didn't have time, when I say, how can we not possibly take the time. Our lack of prayer may very well be a reflection of where God fits into our priorities. Take the time! It is worth it!

From Our Table To Yours
I trust that your weekend served as a time of R5(Resting-Relationships-Refocusing-Rejoicing in God's goodness-Rejuvenating your spirit), and that you are ready to face your week with a renewed vigor. I will be absent the next two Sundays, and your understanding of our absence is appreciated. We look forward to when we will back to be with you all. As I have communicated, my son, Bo, will be filling in for me the next two Sundays. His series on prayer will provide some helpful biblical principles upon which you can build your prayer life. A passage upon which you can focus is Matthew 6:5-15. His focus this coming Sunday on the "Reasons Our Prayers Don't Get Answered" will take you to several passages, but consider the ones that are couched in the Lord's Prayer. As Matt. 6 teaches us how to pray, consider each aspect in a negative context and see how many match up with principles that Bo will share this Sunday. (i.e. thy kingdom come, thy will be done vs. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.)

When I return we will resume our study with a focus on the life of Joseph. The series is called "Pursued-Prisoned-Promoted." It will begin in chapter 39. We will see the plan of God at work in the rollercoaster life of Joseph and culminate in Joseph's words to his brothers in chapter 50:20, "But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive."

Hopefully, this will give you some direction for the next couple weeks for scriptural focus. Remember Psalm 1:1-3:
"Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
Sink your roots deep in God's Word and drink it in, you won't be sorry. Be Blessed!
