Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant, Michigan Immanuel is an ELCA congregation located in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. All are welcome! We commune weekly at both services. All are served.

Immanuel Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Established in 1977 with 50 members, Immanuel has had two building expansions to allow for our growth. Today, we enjoy a church membership of over 400, with approximately 150 worshipping weekly. Immanuel has an open communion table, which means that all baptized Christians are welcome to participate in the Eu

charist. We seek to build relationships across all boundaries - such as age, race, ability, religion, social class, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, and political beliefs. The homeless and the hungry have a special place in our hearts. We welcome everyone to join us for worship, bible study, service and mission work, community ministry or for any opportunity to glorify our Lord!

This weekend at Synod Assembly, I was reminded how grateful I am for the wider church. We gathered from many congregations and communities, carrying different stories and callings, yet meeting one another at the same table of grace.

There is something deeply Lutheran about remembering we belong to one another in Christ. Across miles and ministries, we encourage each other, pray for each other, and join together in God’s work in the world.

I came home grateful for conversations, laughter, worship, and for all the members of our congregation who give their time, offerings, and leadership to the greater church. Your faithfulness strengthens the whole body of Christ. 🌿

The Digmann's rocked a photo with our new bishop of the North/West Lower Michigan Synod.

Also, the group photo with unfamiliar faces to Immanuel was a moment I was trying to act normal while internally fan-girling. 😄 Spending time with both Rev. Lillian Daniel and our new presiding bishop. It left me hopeful for the future. The Spirit is moving.

Why does God allow suffering?

This is what unfolds when the Digmanns bring their brave questions to Pastor Dana — the kind that stretch every theologian and soften every heart. Some questions refuse tidy answers. They invite us into deeper waters.

A Couple Takes on MS are two radiant souls who continue to teach many of us what courage looks like in real time. Their honesty, humor, and fierce tenderness open space for the rest of us to breathe.

We’re excited to share a new episode of A Couple Takes on MS Podcast today.

We’re joined by our pastor, Dana Hendershot, for a conversation about one of the biggest questions people ask after a diagnosis like MS:

Why does God allow suffering?

We talk about faith during hard seasons, the power of community, prayer, and learning to find joy in the moment even when life feels overwhelming.

This episode felt deeply personal to record, and we hope it meets someone exactly where they are today.

You can listen to the episode—Taking on Pastor Dana Hendershot & why did God give us MS?—with the link in the comments below or wherever you get your podcasts.

Pastor Dana is a guest on the first episode of this podcast. Your Matter Matters.

Your Matter Matters is a new podcast created by Thomas Johnston & Will Rose. Two humans who ask good questions and aren’t afraid to geek out in public (a spiritual discipline, if you ask me).

All of the voices on the first podcast are voices from the Lutheran Alliance for Faith, Science, and Technology steering committee. We talk about neurons and theology, cells and scripture, science and wonder.
