Obituary for Ruby L. Grandberry:
Ruby Lucille Grandberry was born on February 3, 1955 at 702 South Main St., Mount Pleasant TN to Ms.Annie Barton Grandberry (John Lee Newson). On April 21, 2025, Ruby made her transition from her earthly home to her eternal home.
Ruby’s elementary education begin at Clarke Training School followed by Haylong High School, and graduated from Mount Pleasant high school with the class of 1974.
Upon the completion of her education, she worked several different jobs before she found her true calling. After graduating from high school, she began working in Columbia, Tennessee as a nursing assistant, but she kept searching for a better job. Ruby then began working at Union Carbide in Columbia, where she remained until the plant closed. Ruby took a vacation and didn’t not work for a while. Later, she started doing private sitting work. Ruby enjoyed taking care of patients and being by their side. Ruby got an opportunity to do a sitting job with Mrs. Minnie. This was a perfect job for her because they both loved each other and their families became one big family. This friendship remained close until Miss Minnie passed. Ruby happily continued to serve the elderly, doing sitting jobs until her health failed. The McClure and Douglas families still considered Ruby as a part of their families.
Ruby grew up in Mount Pleasant TN. She spent most of her life on Scotts Mill Road. The late, Mrs. Margaret Grandberry (aka Granny), raised Ruby, her brother, and many of her cousins. There was always room at Granny‘s house, and every child was treated the same.
Ruby gave her life to Christ at a very young age and was baptized at Jones Chapel, African Methodist Episcopal Church. She loved going to Church and Sunday School because in Granny‘s house you didn’t have a choice. She was a very devoted choir member as well as serving on the Missionary Society, as president, until her health failed. Ruby enjoyed serving God and most of all, dressing up for God, with her make up on, and let’s not forget her name brand purse. Ruby will be truly missed from her Church.
