God marks December 18, 520 BC as a turning point in his relationship with Israel. Things have been bad. But as God has witnessed their good response to Haggai's preaching, he promises that things are going to be different. From this day on...

I. There'll be seed in the barn (10-19)
II. There'll be a Davidic signet ring on God's hand (20-23)

20 years after returning to the Promised Land, God's people had settled into a self-centered stasis. Their homes were finished while God's was still in ruins. In comes the prophet Haggai cutting through justifications and calling to action.

The original hearers of Zechariah's words were people living amidst the rubble of Jerusalem. The city paled in comparison to its former glory. But in an encouraging apocalyse God tells his people it also pales in comparison to its future glory.

I. The winnowing of the flock (13:7-9)

III. The worship of the world (14:16-21)

III. Be rid of all deceivers (13:2-6)

Most nations assume they're just the right king away from utopia. But what makes us think, even if Mr. Right came along, that would we would embrace his righteous rule? That's the story of Zechariah 11.

I. The shepherd Israel needs (4-6)
II. The shepherd Israel rejects (7-14)
III. The shepherd Israel deserves (15-17)

One of the persistent hopes of Israel through the centuries was that God would once again "visit" his people. Zechariah 10 stokes that hope of future intervention in order to motivate their present obedience.

I. God visits the goats (2-3a)
II. God visits his sheep (3b-9)
III. God visits the nations (10-11:3)
