There are patterns in our lives when God, unknown to us, was actively at work, using circumstances to direct us to where He wants us to be. The procedure isn’t always comfortable, but in the end when we realize how things happened and why, we will understand His providence.

Sometimes I think we loose sight of all that God has done for us because we are focused on the challenges we are facing. I have found the the challenges I have most resented were the catalyst that lead me to the greatest blessings. God is always at work in every situation of our lives, even the unpleasant ones. That’s why Paul in all his struggles could pen in Romans “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose “ Romans 8:28
God is forever faithful.

It is September already, where did the Summer go ? The days weeks months sweep by so fast. Then the years sweep by before we know it it is too late to make those choices we should of made or to correct the ones we shouldn't of made. Don't you think it is time that you make that greatest choice of all, the choice to accept Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior ? Don't wait any longer the time is short call on Him now.

Finely, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" Ephesians 6:10

Being strong in the Lord, being strong in the Lord in the power of His might means just that. Not depending in my strength, or my might to face the challenges of this life. We men think we can fix things. We want to be able to stand up on our own and face down what ever comes. So we put our heads down square our shoulders, and go plowing forward like bulls in a China Shop. But our enemy isn't flesh and blood. Our enemy is spirit. It is spiritual dominions. We have to stand not in our might, but in Christ's. So stop trying to rely on what you think you can do in your flesh. Don't be an "I can do it my way" person. Be an, "I can't even walk less I'm holding on to Your hand " person!

Happy Birthday Church of God! 140 Years Old on August 19!

August 19 is the birthday of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee). On this day in 1886, a small group gathered at a gristmill along Barney Creek in Monroe County, Tennessee—not far from the Coker Creek stop on the well-traveled Unicoi Turnpike.

On that summer Thursday, Richard Green Spurling, shown here with his family, preached a sermon on God’s church and invited his hearers to set aside man-made creeds and traditions, to adopt the New Testament as their only rule of faith and practice, to give equal rights to interpret Scripture according to one’s own conscience, and to sit together as the church of God.

Eight responded to the invitation, including his father, Richard Spurling, who as an ordained Baptist Elder had the ecclesial authority to set a church in order and to moderate their business meeting. They called themselves Christian Union—signaling a rejection of separatism and exclusivism they had experienced in other churches.

A few days later, Elder Spurling ordained his son as their first pastor, and over the following decade or so, Richard Green Spurling organized other Christian Union congregations in nearby communities.

Although none of those original mountain congregations have survived, Richard Green Spurling’s vision, first proclaimed alongside an Appalachian mountain creek, now reaches more than 9 million members, worshiping in more than 52,000 congregations, in 197 nations and territories of the world, 8.6 million members. To God Be the Glory!

Look at the twin Kingdoms of Israel and Judah. See how God dealt with them in their sin and rebellion. The Northern Kingdom never came back from captivity, the Southern Kingdom came back after 70 years. Now look at the sins of these two kingdoms, the prophets God sent to warn them and the opposition these Men of God had from the people and their false prophets which they preferred because they told them what they wanted to hear. God gave them ungodly leaders because they rejected His leadership. Look again at the severity of God's Judgement on His people. Now look around you at this nation, its leaders and wanna be leaders. We have followed after false gods, we have embraced prophets who are not prophets. Do you see it yet? The Church must come together and pray.

What makes one a Christian?
Is it taking a Catechism class and learning the basic beliefs of the Church! Or is it going to Confession, taking your first Communion and being sprinkled, splashed or dunked in Baptism? It is none of these!
Just before my 16th birthday I attended the Catechism class at my Presbyterian church. I knew all the right answers, they sprinkled a little water on my head patted me on my back and sent me out into the world as lost as a duck in tall grass. It wasn’t until the following March that I had a genuine encounter with Christ.
Christianity isn’t in Confessing your sins to a man, it’s in confessing and repeating your sins to God. Salvation doesn’t follow Baptism and isn’t accomplished through Communion.
Salvation comes when you come to the revelation that you cannot live right without God’s help. When you know that you are lost and undone, without God and His Son.
Salvation comes, not from Church membership, it comes when you turn to Christ Jesus and away from your old life, and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. You must come to the end of yourself and know that you are a sinner and that you need a powerful Savior. I don’t care if you are already a Church member and have been all your life, attending Church all your life doesn’t make you a Christian any more than living in a stable makes you a horse.
Come with a true heart and confess your inability to live right, and ask Jesus to come into your heart, receive Him as your Lord and Savior.

We had an abundance of rain in Mount Olive tonight as I preached a message titled
“Let The Holy Ghost From Heaven Fall On Me”
As I preached the rain became heavier and heavier. It was an abundance of rain outside the Church and an abundance of rain within the Church as the Holy Ghost made Himself known.
North Carolina has been in a drought for many months and an abundance of rain came to quench the drought. There is also a spiritual drought in the Church world and I sense that there is coming an abundance of rain to quench the spiritual drought of many in the Church. Almighty God can work as easily with few as He can with many. Just ask Him to send the rain, and He will send you an abundance of rain as well.

There are so many in the Church who think everything is just fine with them. They are standing on something that happened years ago but never had a dimensional follow through. They were sprinkled as a small child, joined the Church and had thier “first communion” as a teenager, but never truly had an encounter with God. Never received Jesus Christ as their Savior. Now, when confronted with the Gospel, they shrug it off and go their way blindly. Until one day everything they were standing on is revealed to be sinking sand. They find themselves in the fearful position, beholding the Christ they ignored all thier lives and being told, “depart from Me, I never knew you!”
Don’t forfeit eternity because of your own blindness. Find an altar, even if it is just the side of your bed, cry out to God and ask Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior.

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind....." Romans 12:2
The world wants you to conform to their thinking. They want you to give up your Christian values and accept their wold view. No less a personality than Hillery Clinton stated in a resent speech that Bible believing Christians "must" change their beliefs on issues such as abortion and homosexual marriage. They want you to be quiet and leave any talk about what you believe at the door of your Church. If you are not watchful you can be seduced by the demand for tolerance. The Word of God tells you not to conform, but to be transformed.

Colossians 3:1-6 "If you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ with God. When Christ, who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness which is idolatry.Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience."

We are not part of this wicked world system, while are bodies reside here our home is with Christ. We must crucify our carnal man, (Remember Living Sacrifices), and live lives that are holy and separated. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. How is that accomplished ? With all the forces battling to pull us away from Christ and into the grasp of this wicked generation, how do we become transformed by the renewing of our minds ? I am glad you asked !

We are transformed ... our minds are renewed by :
1) By the Word of God ...
a) Isaiah 55:11 " So shall My Word be, that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but shall accomplish what I please, and shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."
b) Psalm 119:11 and 119:105 "Your Word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
c) Ephesians 5:26 "...... That He might sanctify, and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word."
As my very first mentor in ministry, Bishop Walter A, Wheeler, used to say every Sunday, "This Book will keep you from sin, but sin will keep you from this Book" When you saturate your mind in the Word of God, but renew it, and cleanse it from the wickedness that tries to make inroads in to your thinking. It is in times that I have neglected Gods Word that I have been overwhelmed by the pressures of my life, but when I have returned to His Word, I have found peace, and strength.
2) By Prayer ...
a) Oswald Chambers in his book, "Prayer Our Holy Occupation" says that prayer isn't just some excessive that we go through. True prayer is communion with God.
When I was a little boy I was taught to pray the Lords Prayer, I was also taught a bed time prayer, "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I awake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." For years that was all I knew about prayer. Sadly to many Christians that is about all the effort they put into prayer. Prayer is not a wish list sent to a heavenly Santa. Prayer is a communion with a living God. It is a spiritual place that we each must find if we are ever to mature as Christians. Just like neglecting the Word, neglecting Prayer will leave us necked and defenseless to the attacks of Satan.
b) Christians who are living sacrificial lives are people of Prayer, and people of the Word. Do you want to be transformed ? Do you want to live the life God in Christ meant you to live. Take your Bible, and fine a quiet place and seek Him. You will fine a power that this wicked would can never understand.
