Nobody’s perfect.

That can be a hard pill to swallow. We live in a culture that pushes us towards striving for perfection from a very early age.

Children in school are given awards for perfect attendance – something so haphazardly achievable, with sheer luck allowing some to escape the odd cold or flu, and such an achievement being out of reach for those who are victim of chronic illness and disability. Colleges look not just at grades and test scores, but extracurricular activities and community service; it’s not enough that our young people study hard and do their best, they are also expected to involve themselves in clubs and athletics, volunteer activities, and even after-school jobs. It’s a lot to ask of those so young, an ideal that is all but unattainable for many, and it doesn’t stop as we get older.

Work hard, we are told, and you will succeed. Put in those extra hours at work. Take on unpaid internships, network with the right people, make yourself indispensable. Get to the office early and leave late. Save every dime but still maintain an active social life and keep close to family and friends. Look perfect, act perfect, be perfect, and never stop reaching for something more, something better.

It's a lot to ask of anyone, and it is so ingrained within our society that anyone can find themselves riddled with anxiety over searching out that mythical place of perfect and never, ever failing.

But that’s not how it works out for most of us, is it? We stumble and fall all too often; we must remember that it’s just fine to stand back up, dust ourselves off, and try again.

In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus relates the story of the Prodigal Son, the youngest of the family who asks his father for his inheritance early and sets out to make his way in the world. It was not long before he squandered what wealth he had and found himself starving, returning to his father to beg for a place among his workers to earn his keep. Instead, his father embraced him with great joy, calling for a celebration to be prepared and saying, "this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found" (Luke 15:24). The Prodigal Son was given the chance to start anew, something we can all use now again.

This June 5th marks the third annual National Start Over Day. This fairly new celebratory day is a reminder that at one time or another, we will all need a second chance. Starting over is no sin; we are human and we will always be imperfect, but we will always be welcomed home into the arms of a loving God.

Pray the Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus from Wednesday June 3rd through Thursday June 11 just prior to The Solemnity of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on Friday, June 12, 2026. Click on the “See More” link to read more.

The short story of the feast is explained in an old catechism: “A single word of Christ would have fully sufficed to redeem us, but it was not enough to make manifest the love of God. It is because of the great love Christ displays towards us, that we venerate the most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The heart is the center of the physical life; from it the blood flows into every part of the body, maintaining its vitality. And since there is an intimate connection between body and soul, the heart is spoken of as the center of the spiritual life, whence all the thoughts and feelings take their rise. Hence, we say: “My heart rejoiced, my heart is grieved, etc.” The heart is regarded pre-eminently as the seat of love. When we venerate the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we call to mind His exceeding great love for us, and are stimulated to return love for love. God made use of a French nun, Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, to propagate this devotion. Our Lord appeared to her repeatedly, showing her His Heart pierced by the lance, emitting flames of fire, surrounded by a crown of thorns to signify the pain sinners cause to Our Savior and surmounted by a shining cross. Our Lord intimated His desire that pictures of this Heart should be exposed for veneration, and promised signal blessings to all who should practice this devotion. He also commanded the festival of the Sacred Heart to be kept on the Friday after the octave of Corpus Christi. This day is a most appropriate one, for it was on a Friday that Our Lord by His death gave the greatest possible proof of His love, and His Heart was pierced by the lance. Moreover, the Adorable Sacrament of the Altar affords abundant testimony to the love of the Savior, for as the sun’s rays are focused in a lens, so the rays of the sun of divine love are concentrated in the Sacrament of the Altar. Hence the feast of Corpus Christi is a special memorial of the love of Christ for man. The devotion to the Sacred Heart, opposed at the outset, as are all works that are of God, spread rapidly over all the earth, and was attended by signal blessings. Another reason why Our Lord suffered so much was that He might be a pattern to us in suffering: “Christ suffered for us, leaving you an example” (1 Pet. ii. 21). He Himself said: “I have given you an example” (John xiii. 15).”

Pray this Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the grace of making reparation for the offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and against human dignity that have taken place in your country. Ask also that your heart will be united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, so that the families and communities in your country will enjoy peace and happiness; so that broken relationships will be reconciled, so that injustices will be repaired, and that wounds of your land will be healed.

First pray the Novena Prayer I. O my Jesus, you have said: 'Truly I say to you, ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you. ' Behold I knock, I seek and ask for the grace of making reparation for the offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and against human dignity that have taken place in my country. I also ask that my heart will be united to the sacred Heart of Jesus, so that the families and communities in my country will enjoy peace and happiness; so that broken relationships will be reconciled, so that injustices will be repaired, and that wounds of my country will be healed. Follow the above prayer with the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be prayers and with Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

Second pray the Novena Prayer II. O my Jesus, you have said: 'Truly I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. ' Behold, in your name, I ask the Father for the grace of making reparation for the offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and against human dignity that have taken place in my country.

Third pray the Novena Prayer III. O my Jesus, you have said: 'Truly I say to you, heaven and earth will pass away but my words will not pass away. ' Encouraged by your infallible words I now ask for the grace for the grace of making reparation for the offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and against human dignity that have taken place in my country.
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom it is impossible not to have compassion on the afflicted, have pity on us miserable sinners and grant us the grace which we asked of you in the Novena Prayers I, II and II, through the Sorrowful and Immaculate Heart of Mary, your tender Mother and ours.

Then Pray the Hail, Holy Queen and add: St. Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.

The most haunting part of this image is not the rifles. It is the priest and the penitent. In the middle of political fanaticism, propaganda, and revolutionary rage in 1960’s Cuba, one man still kneels beside another human being and acknowledges his dignity before death. That act stands in direct contrast to every ideology that reduces people to obstacles, statistics, or enemies of the state. The priest saw a soul. The regime saw a problem to eliminate. Remember once politics becomes a substitute for morality, cruelty becomes easy to justify. Please pray that that does not happen in your country.

PRAYER TO THE GUARDIAN ANGEL OF YOUR COUNTRY Click on the "See More" link to read more.

O glorious Guardian Angel of the, here state the name of your country, to whom God has entrusted the care of our beloved country, we honor you and thank you for the care and protection you have given to this great nation from the first moment of its inception.

O powerful Angel Guardian, whose watchful glance encompasses this vast land from shore to shore, we know that our sins have grieved our Lord and God and marred the beauty of our heritage. Lead us to a deep conversion, so that we may return to the embrace of His merciful love!

O Holy Angel, obtain for us through the intercession of the Queen of Heaven before the throne of God the graces we need to overcome the forces of evil so rampant in our beloved land. Help us, our God-given protector and friend, to respond wholeheartedly to the urgent pleas of the Mother of God at Fatima. Assist us to offer the prayers and sacrifices necessary to bring peace and goodness to our nation.

We want to make you known and loved throughout our land, so that docile to your inspirations we may know, love and serve our Lord more faithfully and so become one Nation under God! Amen.

The Question shown above, the answer shown below and the prayer in the next post is taken from the website of the Opus Angelorum (i.e. Work of the Angels). “They are an international movement within the Catholic Church faithful to the Magisterium. It is ordered to promoting devotion to the holy angels and a covenant bond with them through a consecration approved by the Church, so that the holy angels may lead us more effectively to God.

The Work is under the overall direction of the Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross, under which has also been erected the Confraternity of the Holy Guardian Angels. The Sisters of the Holy Cross is aggregated to the Order and, though autonomous, forms with it one spiritual family.”

The answer to the above Questions is “It is taught by St. Thomas Aquinas, as well as many Fathers and Doctors of the Church, that every country has its own Guardian Angel. In fact, St. Clement of Alexandria goes so far as to state that whole “regiments of angels are distributed over nations and cities” (cf. Fr. Pascal Parente, The Angels, p. 119).”

"It should be noted in particular that Portugal has had a strong and deep devotion to its Guardian Angel for centuries. In fact, that nation was given approval by Pope Leo X in the sixteenth century to introduce a special feast day in order to honor its Guardian Angel. The feast day falls on June 10th of each year. France, similarly has consecrated itself over the centuries to St. Michael the Archangel as her patron. This consecration goes back to King Charlemagne in the early years of the 9th Century."

Also, in the United States, “a statue has been erected at the National Shrine of the World Apostolate of Fatima in Washington, NJ, in honor of the Guardian Angel of the United States. The statue stands ten feet tall and weighs five tons. It is carved out of Carrara marble by a world-famous Portuguese sculptor. It was consecrated on July 4th, 1982.”

Prayer to say for the intercession of Saint Rita of Cascia, whose Feast day is Friday May 22. Saint Rita of Cascia is the Patron Saint of Difficult Marriages, Loneliness, Impossible Causes, Infertility and Parenthood.

O holy protectress of those who are in utmost need, shining as a star of hope in the midst of darkness, in patience and fortitude as the patriarch Job, scourge of devils, health of the sick, deliverer of those in extreme need, admiration of saints and model of all states!
With confident trust, and firmly united to the adorable will of my God, through the merits of my only Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and in particular of that painful crown of thorns which with a tender devotion thou didst daily contemplate; through the merits of the most sweet Virgin Mary and thine own excellent graces and virtues, I implore thee with my whole heart and soul, to obtain my earnest petition, provided it be for the greater glory of God and my salvation.

(mention your request).

Guide and purify my intention, O holy protectress and most dear advocate, that I may obtain the pardon of all my sins and the grace to persevere daily, as thou didst, in walking with courage and generosity and unwavering fidelity upon the heavenward path on which the love of my sweet Lord desires to lead me. Amen.
