The next City Commission meeting is on Monday, August 13th at 6:30pm at City Hall. We have an opportunity to implore our commissioners to rescind their resolution on the exclusive support of Christian prayer in Tennessee and Mt. Juliet.

Please join me and invite others to demonstrate that religious exclusivism and Christian nationalism is unconstitutional and anti-American at the next City Commission meeting

The Freedom From Religion Foundation criticized Mt. Juliet city commissioners who passed a resolution last week that called God the “Creator and King of all Glory.”

Another reason why no government of any size or shape in the U.S. should be giving favor of any kind - by resolution or law - to a particular religious tradition. We are a pluralistic society, dedicated to educating everyone, no matter where they land on the religious spectrum

Just a reminder that City of Mt. Juliet doesn’t belong to Christians alone. It belongs to taxpayers of atheist, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Baha’i, and Hindu backgrounds as well

For reference, the support of HR 803 by the Tennessee House, Senate, and now the Mayor and Commissioners of City of Mt. Juliet goes against the State Constitution of Tennessee because of its exclusively Christian language:

"That all men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own conscience; that no man can of right be compelled to attend, erect, or support any place of worship, or to maintain any minister against his consent; that no human authority can, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience; AND THAT NO PREFERENCE SHALL EVER BE GIVEN, BY LAW, TO ANY RELIGIOUS ESTABLISHMENT OR MODE OF WORSHIP." - Article I, Section 3

The recent Tennessee Joint House Resolution 803 on the state officially calling on its citizens to seek the Christian God in prayer in fasting is a blatant violation of the separation of church and state as well as a revision of the history of religion in the United States.

The City of Mt. Juliet Commission (who should be commended for their public service) voted to support HR 803 last night, July 22nd. This is unacceptable. The issue is not in its religious content, but in its exclusive appeal to the Christian religion. The United States and, by extension, Tennessee are places where freedom of the practice of religion should be encouraged and protected without the official government infringement of that freedom through imposing an exclusive religious worldview through policy and procedure.

We respectfully request that the commissioners retract their support for the further flourishing of religious freedom in the beautiful city of Mt. Juliet
