Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a fantastic start to your week!!
I wanted to hop on here really "quick" to talk about some exciting things that are going on with our youth group.
First off, I want to once again thank all the leaders, deacons and youth who have been so impactful for our ministry recently! We’ve had a successful high school movie night, an end of summer luau with water games, a productive service day, and a great Level-UP day with our middle school students at Lake Wylie Pins N’ Wins; featuring bowling, laser tag, and fun in the arcade. All of this within the last week and a half. We are so excited to continue pouring into our youth this fall!
With that, I would love to announce some things to look forward to for the youth.
This Wednesday for MDWK Meet, from 6:30pm-8:00pm, each small group will be starting a new lesson series.
The boys’ small group will be led by Tyler Busby, Jonah High, and Ernie Crawford. They will be studying the book of Mark, learning what it means to be a follower of Christ and a true disciple. The focus this week will be in Mark 1:1-3.
The middle school girls, led by Alli High and Heidi Stevenson, are beginning a study on how to handle the “lemons” life can give us. Do we just sit back and wonder “why me?” or do we trust the One who holds us no matter what?
The high school girls, led by Dondra Johnston and Jessica Brown, will be starting a study entitled “Worthy.” Worthy is a study about embracing your identity in Christ. What defines you? Do you struggle with feelings of uncertainty about who you are? Do you wish you were more confident in your identity? Knowing who you are shapes your character, values, and how you navigate the world, relationships, work, and every facet of life. The study explores the titles you have through your relationship with Jesus and reveals how these titles impact your life’s journey for God’s glory.
I will be helping lead our large group, before we split into small groups. I will then make myself available to speak with any youth or parent that needs to meet for whatever reason. I will also be outside at our hub before our large group starts to help answer any question you may have about our church, youth group, or any upcoming events.
On Sundays we will have a mixture of activities that include Sunday Surge, Youth Connect, and some other special activities (for example: the movies, Pins N’ Wins as mentioned above).
Sunday Surge happens on Sunday evenings from 5:00-7:00. It is a time that we gather for food, games, and large group studies.
Youth Connect happens once a month during the school year. This is a time that we go off campus to gather with other local youth groups for devotions, food, and games. This time together helps students and leaders alike build community within and throughout our communities, in a safe environment, while discovering that the God’s Kingdom, His Church, extends beyond our walls.
We have so much more that we’re looking forward to! This includes, but is certainly not limited to:
MessFest
5th Wednesday night theme night: Mystery Detective
Youth Connect/Lock-In
Pumpkin Carving w/ the TBC Kids
Friendsgiving
Hanging of the Greens
Youth Christmas Party
A calendar will be available at the church’s hub on Sundays, as well as our hub on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
Parents and students, if you haven’t already, be sure to text your name to 1-833-354-8636 to receive texts of upcoming youth events, news, and reminders.
We are continuing to challenge ourselves to be different. To look and act differently than the world, as we are taught in God’s Holy Word:
'Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.'
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
There is so much more to share. So please stop by the hub to get filled in.
If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected], or you can reach me directly at [email protected].
Much love to you all,
Chris Brown
