Do you know we serve an awesome God?!
Did you know that holiness is the only one of God's attributes used in Scripture 3 times consecutively? Yet many of us struggle to know what exactly "holy" means.
That's understandable when we consider holiness is an attribute we can't possess without a relationship with Jesus. Holiness is the absence of sin. God is perfectly holy, meaning He has been, is, and will always be without sin. That's why He gets to set the standards of what's and what's wrong! We can only attain some holiness that Jesus imputes to us once He becomes Lord of our lives, which enables us to become LESS sinful, not SIN-FREE.
In Isaiah 6, we see an incredible glimpse of God's glory. Isaiah realizes in God's presence how completely sinful, helpless, and filthy he is. Does God's glory produce that same result in us?
Despite Isaiah knowing his shortcomings, God calls him into ministry. Isaiah willingly accepts because he knows that God can do anything, even though Isaiah isn't perfect. God explains to Isaiah that the ministry won't go well...his message will fall on deaf ears and hardened hearts. Do you still serve when ministry doesn't produce the results you expect? Would you still proclaim the gospel, even if it was never received by a single listener?
An effective ministry isn't measured by results; rather, an effective ministry is found in the faithfulness of God's servants.
Is God calling you to serve? Is there a skill, talent, or job you can learn to better serve him? Is there a person in your life you can share the gospel with? Are you actively serving in a church body? Is your church attendance reflective of your understanding of God's holiness? Do you need help better understanding God's character?
