God’s Truth Brings Stability!

Stability is the quality of being firm, steady, and not easily moved or changed, especially under pressure, change, or hardship.
In a personal or spiritual sense, stability means:
Your beliefs and commitments do not collapse when your life is shaken.
Established truth, not wavering emotions, or the shifting winds of religious philosophy, determine your beliefs and actions.
You have an inner contentedness, consistency, and reliability over time.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. (John 14:26-27)
There is no lasting stability in this unsettled, ever-changing, sin-cursed world, apart from the eternally immutable truth of our triune Creator.
The inspired words of John 14–17 leave no doubt that although there is but one God, He exists eternally in three perfectly united Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Together they are the one true and living God, the eternal source of all truth, wisdom, and reality.
As the hour of His suffering drew near, the Lord Jesus knew His disciples were about to enter the greatest trial of their lives. The storm that awaited them would make every previous temptation, fear, and hardship seem like child's play. Knowing their weakness, He lovingly prepared them by directing their hearts to the unchanging truths concerning Himself, the Father, and the Holy Spirit. Only the certainty of who God truly is would provide the stability they needed to stand when everything around them appeared to be collapsing.
Let us consider how the Lord Jesus comforted and strengthened His disciples with these great, life-stabilizing truths. Knowing the trials that awaited them, He directed their hearts to realities that would never change. In the same way, God's truth remains our anchor today, bringing stability through the storms of life, the struggles of life, the sorrows of life, the separations of life, and even the sufferings of life.
God's truth brings Stability in the Storm.
These disciples are most certainly watching the storm clouds of doubt and distress building up on the horizon.
Do we not have this same faithful God to give us His stability regardless of the fierceness of the storm? Can you hear Jesus telling you,
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1)
Jesus offers a secure anchor by calling believers to trust in both God the Father and Himself, both equally, which roots our peace in His divine trustworthiness rather than our chaotic circumstances.
God's truth brings stability in the Struggles.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:16-17)

You and I have struggles of one sort or the other, continually, don’t we? Not a raging storm, but a common everyday battle, which tries to rob us of our peace and joy. No doubt we all could make a lengthy list.
The Holy Spirit (the Advocate/Comforter) lives inside believers, actively providing the exact help and divine guidance needed to overcome every one of our daily struggles and gives us the stability we need to persevere.

God’s truth brings stability in Sorrow.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy. (John 16:20)
The incredible sorrow that the disciples, but especially our Savior, experienced at the cross appeared absolute, but God the Father turned it into their supreme joy through the resurrection. The sorrows of this life, though excruciatingly painful, will seem like nothing compared to the eternal joy that awaits us in heaven.
God’s truth brings stability in separations. When faced with separation or isolation from others, you can find stability in the eternal, unbreakable bond of the Triune God. Jesus prays that all believers be included in that exact same, unbreakable unity with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
(John 17:20-21)
God’s truth brings stability in suffering.
The disciples were no strangers to suffering, and the Lord had warned them that even greater trials were ahead. Yet although storms, struggles, sorrows, separation, and suffering are unavoidable in this earthly life, God has given His people the unchanging promises of His Word.
Though we may not understand the purpose behind every sorrow, we can rest in the certainty that not one of them is wasted. Every affliction is under the sovereign hand of God, who is using all things to make us more like Christ and to magnify His glory forever. (Romans 8:28-29)

God’s Truth Strengthens!

We know that the Lord’s disciples were facing fearful and uncertain times. Persecution was increasing, and Jesus had told them that one of their own would betray Him, that they would all forsake Him, and that He would ultimately be put to death. These revelations left them confused, troubled, and in total shock. In their minds, He was the promised Messiah who had come to deliver Israel from her enemies, restore the kingdom, and reign forever upon the throne of David, which He was, but they were missing some key details. For them none of this made sense.
It is both instructive and sobering to see how their preconceived ideas, beliefs shaped by tradition and long-held expectations caused them to question and struggle with the truth of God, even when that truth came directly from the lips of the Lord Himself. Their understanding of what God should do, clouded their ability to receive what God had actually revealed. As a result, they wrestled with doubt and confusion, not because God's truth was unclear, but because it conflicted with their expectations.
This is often the very thing that causes us to struggle with God's revealed truth. His truth, revealed in His inspired, infallible, and sufficient Word, must always be our final authority. We must never allow tradition, popular opinion, personal feelings, or even our own experiences to cause us to question the contextual truths of Scripture. God's Word is not subject to our interpretation of circumstances; rather, our circumstances must be interpreted through the lens of God's Word. Faith rests not upon what we see or feel, but upon the unchanging truth of what God has said. As believers, we are called to submit our hearts, minds, and experiences to the authority of Scripture, trusting that God's truth remains steadfast even when our understanding falters.
In John 14–17, Jesus does not strengthen the disciples by changing their circumstances. He strengthens them by His revealing truth. He reveals His Person ("I am the truth"), His Plan ("I go to prepare a place for you"), His Purpose ("that ye should go and bring forth fruit"), His Path ("abide in me"), and His Presence ("I will not leave you comfortless").
First, the Lord strengthened them by revealing the truth of His Person. In the midst of their fears and uncertainties, Jesus directed their attention away from their circumstances and back to Himself. He said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me" (John 14:1). These words reminded the disciples not only that He deeply cared for their troubled hearts, but also that He was fully worthy of their faith and trust. The One speaking to them was no mere teacher or prophet, but God incarnate, in whom every need of their lives would be fully supplied.
Jesus further revealed His divine identity when He declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). He alone is the way to God, the embodiment of all truth, and the source of eternal life. He then added, "If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him and have seen him" (John 14:7).

Secondly, His disciples were strengthened when the Lord revealed the truth of His plan.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. (John 14:2-3)

Strength came not only from the truth of His person, and His plan, but also from the truth of His purpose.

Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. (John 15:8)

Knowing that His ultimate purpose in all that He did was to bring glory, honor and praise to the Father, reminded His disciples that glorifying the Father should be their own primary purpose, as well, regardless of the cost.
The Lord also strengthened His followers by revealing to them the truth of His path, when He told them, “I am the way…” Instructing them not only in where they were going, but also how they were to walk in their daily lives.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. (Joh 15:12)

Finally, they were strengthened when the Lord revealed to them the truth of His presence.

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. (John 14:16-18)

What could bring greater strength and encouragement to the heart of a believer than knowing that the Lord has not left us alone or comfortless. Instead, He promised that the Holy Spirit would come to indwell His people, becoming their constant Companion, Comforter, and their Guide into all truth.
Like the disciples, we too can find daily strength, comfort, and encouragement by reminding ourselves of these vital truths even in the midst of life's most difficult circumstances.

Praise God for Godly Mothers!

Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. (Proverbs 31:10-31)

These inspired words, divinely chosen and faithfully preserved for us by the Lord Himself in the book of Proverbs, are truly an exquisite literary masterpiece. As you read, can you see the beautiful portrait of this virtuous woman clearly revealed as a loving wife and devoted mother being unveiled by the Holy Spirit before your eyes?
No doubt, none of us has a mother who perfectly fulfills every aspect of the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31, just as none of us can ever fully measure up to God’s holy standard for our lives. Yet, if you have been blessed with a godly mother who fears the Lord, surely you can see her reflected here beautifully portrayed in this radiant picture of faithful love, sacrificial devotion, gracious strength, and steadfast godliness in all that she has done and continues to do.
If you cannot, then perhaps you need to prayerfully ask the Lord to help you see her through eyes of grace, thanksgiving, and loving appreciation. For this is the sincere heart’s desire of every truly Spirit-filled and God-fearing mother. Though it is often far easier for us to notice one another’s faults and failures, Scripture teaches us that to properly honor our mothers, we must learn to view them with hearts filled with gratitude for the love, sacrifice, and faithful devotion God has graciously worked through their lives.
May you and I see our mothers and grandmothers, and great-grandmothers, as the Lord so perfectly described them and “…arise up and call them blessed…”

A Mother’s Faithful Love

Oh, faithful mother, pure and true,
With every heartbeat, I honor you.
In your arms, I've learned to stand,
With a gentle touch and guiding hand.
You've taught me to love, to hope, to pray,
To seek the Lord each passing day.
Through storms of doubt and trials of heart,
Your faithfulness has set you apart.
In moments when I wandered far,
You lifted me up, my shining star.
With every sacrifice made in quiet grace,
You reflected God's love in a warm embrace.
Your laughter dances like the morning sun,
In your embrace, the battle is won.
With each blessing whispered in the night,
You covered me with grace and light.
Your faith, a treasure firm and bright,
Guiding our family in the darkest night.
In the tapestry of life, your threads are sewn,
In your love, dear mother, I have grown.
So on this day, I lift you high,
With praises that reach to the sky.
For in my heart, you’ll always dwell,
A faithful mother, and all is well.
(unknown)

A heartfelt thank you to all of our godly mothers! We love you and deeply appreciate all that you do. The Lord knows every prayerful and anxious moment you endure. He sees your aching heart, your countless acts of sacrificial love, and every quiet labor of faithfulness offered for your children and family. He has even recorded and gathered your tears into His heavenly bottle. (Psalm 56:8)
May the Lord graciously fill your heart with His joy and peace as He continues to use you to help shape, nurture, and mold the hearts and lives of your precious children for His glory.

Our Triune God, the Essence of all Truth

We are living in a time marked by uncertainty. The very foundations of reality that in my childhood seemed unquestionably sound now appear fearfully fragile. Truth, more often than not, is treated as subjective, constantly changing with the ever-shifting winds of culture, opinion, and circumstance. There seem to be no real solutions, only more unanswered questions filling our hearts and minds with uncertainty and fear.
Yet God’s word directs us to a reality that stands in complete contrast to what the “god of this world” would love for us to believe.
With the Lord’s help, this will be a series of devotions reminding us that as children of Light, you and I are sons and daughters of the sovereign, triune Creator of all things, who is the very essence and foundation of all truth. Our God’s promised reward for our loving, abiding faith in Him, the eternal, immutable Truth, is unshakable strength, stability, sanctity, unity, and security anchored deep within our hearts.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

The truths that will guide this series were not spoken in a moment of peace and security, but in the shadow of the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
In John 14–17, we are brought into the Upper Room, where the Lord Jesus Christ prepares His disciples for all that is about to take place. Confusion fills their minds. Sorrows fill their hearts. The One, the Messiah, whom they have been faithfully following for years, is going away, and seemingly everything that they have believed is suddenly about to drastically change.
And yet, Jesus does not give them strategies for avoiding the troubles and difficulties that certainly lie ahead. Instead, He gives them something far greater:
He gives them truth rooted in the Triune God.
Through these three chapters of John’s gospel, a profound and shocking revelation unfolds:
Jesus the Son declares, “I am… the truth” (John 14:6). The Spirit is revealed as “the Spirit of truth” who guides His people into all truth (John 16:13). And the Father sanctifies, or sets His people apart unto holiness, through His Word, declaring, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. (John 17:17)
From beginning to end, we see that truth is not simply something God speaks—it is who God is. The Triune God is the essence, source, and sustainer of all truth.
This series is built on the life-changing conviction that learning, knowing, and applying God’s truth anchors the believer’s soul and transforms his daily life.
As we look carefully and prayerfully through John 14–17, I pray the Lord will help us to see that abiding in God’s truth produces five vital strongholds that will keep us faithful and true in the uncertain days ahead.
1. Strength in the face of weakness
2. Stability in the midst of uncertainty
3. Sanctity in a world of compromise
4. Solidarity among the people of God
5. Security that cannot be shaken

These are not just five nice-sounding alliterated points. They are the direct working of the truth of God in the life of every believer.
They are the Anchor for our Soul.

Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
(Hebrews 6:17-20)

An anchor does not calm the storm, nor remove us from the angry winds and waves, but it holds us safely and firmly within it.
So it is with truth. The uncertainties of life will come. Our circumstances will become troublesome, and trials are as sure as the rising of the sun. But the soul that is anchored in the Triune God, the One who is truth, though sometimes shaken, remains secure and stedfast.
My prayer is that this will help all of us
To trust Christ as the Truth, to be more sensitive and obedient to the guidance of the Spirit of truth, and to be fully yielded to the Father’s truth as He conforms us to the image of His dear Son.
It is my heart’s desire and yours as well, I am sure, to continue moving beyond a surface knowledge and understanding into deep, abiding confidence in God Himself.

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. (John 14:1)

For the answer to a troubled heart is not found in clearer circumstances, but in a clearer vision of the Triune God, who is the essence of all truth.

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (John 17:16-20)

The Blessing of Our Suffering

Suffering is to “feel or undergo pain of body or mind; to bear what is inconvenient. We suffer with pain, sickness or sorrow. We suffer with anxiety. We suffer by evils past and by anticipating others to come.We suffer from fear and from disappointed hopes”
Young or old, rich or poor, strong or weak—saved or lost—no one escapes suffering. Whether we recognize it or not, you and I encounter it in one form or another every moment of every day. The truth is, we live in a sin-cursed world—a reality that can be traced directly back to Adam and Eve’s rebellion against God in the Garden. (Genesis3:16-19)
Suffering meets us in many forms—spiritual, physical, mental, and financial, to name but a few. It wears many names as well: sorrow, affliction, trouble, hardship, temptation, trials, and even torment. Yet behind each of these is the same humbling reality that touches every life. In His Word, God speaks to this shared experience, and in the fifth chapter of Romans, the Apostle Paul gathers it all under the term, “tribulation.”

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
(Romans 5:1-5)

Although the painful reality of suffering is unavoidable, we, as God’s beloved children, are blessed with the ability to view it from a divine perspective. God’s Word reveals His infinitely wise purpose, showing that even seasons of tribulation are providentially guided blessings of His glorifying grace.
The Lord used Paul to reveal five ways in which tribulation, or suffering, though difficult, became a personal blessing to him. Through these afflictions, God corrected, compelled, comforted, convinced, and conformed him more and more into the likeness of his blessed Redeemer.
First Paul was corrected by these trials.
He teaches us that believers may not only rejoice in hope because of God’s grace, but also in our tribulations. He shows how this same wondrous grace grants the believer a renewed understanding that suffering is not meaningless, but is actively at work in our lives for our good and God’s glory. Therefore, these trials become blessings as they correct our worldly perceptions, exposing false peace, false hope, and the emptiness of self-confidence.
Secondly, Paul was compelled by this suffering to draw close to the Lord and learn of Him. Is that not what happens to us? Until the storms come, we often find ourselves under the false impression that we are doing fine and have no real need of wholeheartedly seeking the Lord. It is only in these times of desperation that we begin to be compelled to seek and wait patiently for the Lord to come to our rescue.
Paul was then also comforted. Tribulation becomes the very classroom where the Lord comforts us with His peace, sustains us with His hope, and where we personally experience the indescribable agape love of our Savior.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

Next, Paul speaks as one who was convinced through his afflictions:
“…knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope…”
When he says, “knowing that” he is not referring to something merely learned by hearing or reading, but to a truth proven in his own life. Through these trials, he had come to recognize God’s providential hand at work, producing endurance, shaping character, and strengthening hope within him.

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. (2Timothy 1:12)

Finally, Paul was being conformed. It was by this suffering that the Lord was conforming Him to be more and more like Christ.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” Romans 8:28-29

The Scriptures teach us that God does not promise a prosperous, pain-free life, but praise God, He does assure us that the God who ordains our suffering is the same God who transforms it into His divine blessing. Always working all things together for our eternal good and His ultimate glory. Believers are therefore invited to “glory in tribulations,” not because pain is enjoyable, but because God is faithful. He is correcting, compelling, comforting, convincing, and ultimately conforming every one of His beloved children who trust in Him into the image of His dear Son.
