Mount Dora Children's Home is pleased to welcome Emmanuel and Caroline Akrong as our newest houseparents. They join the MDCH family alongside their three children, who will be MDCA students this year at our preschool and in our elementary school.
Married for six years, the Akrongs share a passion for serving children and helping create environments where young people feel safe, supported, and valued.
Emmanuel is originally from Ghana, West Africa, and attended the University of Ghana. Caroline is a graduate of Lipscomb University and previously served as head resident of Johnson Hall for six years. In that role, she developed a love for mentoring students, building community, and walking alongside young people through the challenges and opportunities of everyday life.
Together, they have also served with The Pearl House, a nonprofit organization in Ghana that supports vulnerable girls through mentorship, care, and community. Their commitment to serving children is deeply personal. Emmanuel was raised in a children's home, which is where he first met Caroline. That experience helped shape their shared calling to invest in the lives of young people and provide the kind of encouragement and stability that can make a lasting difference.
As they begin this new chapter, the Akrongs are excited to build relationships with students, families, and staff while becoming an active part of the MDCH community.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to serve together and look forward to walking alongside the children and families of Mount Dora Children's Home," they shared.
Please join us in welcoming Emmanuel, Caroline, and their family to MDCH.
