“But everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Joel 2:32
“When you call on me, I WILL answer. I will be with you in trouble; I will rescue you.” – Psalm 91:15

What amazing promises from our Absolute Promise keeper! In every single situation, no matter how big or small, He has promised you He is there for you. “EVERYONE who calls upon His name, when you call on Me, I WILL answer. I AM WILLING.” He promises us personally, again and again and again in His word. So why is it that, so often, we just don’t call out to Him? Why do we run to this person for wisdom, or social media for sympathy or to feel accepted, or hide internally, when THE only One who really understands is by our side the whole time, just waiting on us to call out His name? Why don’t we immediately and always place ourselves and our burdens on our fully trustworthy and dependable Lord? Straight ahead is always the best direction to run, so why don’t we run to the Living God, when every other way is uncertain? With God, we are guaranteed to always find what we need. With Him, you have His iron clad promise, “I will be saved.” Forgiven and saved from my sins, my hurt heart, my sadness, my worries, my confusion, my loneliness……And everyone is EVERYONE – it includes you and anybody who just simply calls out to Jesus from where they are. He made the promise, and He will deliver every time. Your situation may seem impossible and completely hopeless, but that is where you need to stop thinking and start believing in the One who says NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE THROUGH ME. The “how” is not your concern; God made the promise, and it is His job to “do the doing”. Your job is to simply believe and trust Him, not to direct His ways. Take a deep breath and feel the weight being lifted off your shoulders when you give whatever you are carrying today totally over to Jesus. Ahhh…what a relief!!!
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27

“I AM the way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” – John 14:6
This is a story of a man whose name was Matthew. He was a sweet boy who had a tough upbringing. He lost both of his parents tragically in an auto accident at the age of 7. He was then raised by his grandmother, who did her best to raise him right. She helped him heal from such heartache, and she planted a very important seed in his heart…Always know that God loves you, and His hand is with you Matty. You need to always remember to keep your hand in His and not let go.” Grams was the one who kept him grounded and supported him. She helped him to accept the Lord as his Savior. Shortly after that, heartache struck again in young Matty’s life when at 17, a year before his high school graduation, he lost his rock. Grams died suddenly of a massive heart attack. Matty was devastated. He moved in with an aunt whom he really never had a relationship with. He didn’t know how to process his deep hurt. Deep inside he longed for love and someone to guide him. Not understanding how to fill this void, his hurt led him into friendships with people that were leading him down a rocky road. He had dreams of being a master chef, meeting the love of his life and having a family. The wisdom of his gramma’s voice was becoming muted. He listened to the voices of others casting doubt, and he believed he wasn’t worthy. He went through many jobs, and choices to let his friends influence him led him into a life of heavy drinking and misery. One night, after drinking, he jumped behind the wheel with a girl he didn’t even know, and off they sped. He lost control and crashed into a tree. The girl, who had only bumps and scrapes, escaped to call for help. Matty, though was critically injured. He was rushed to the hospital and was in a coma. While doctors did what they could to keep him alive, Matty was on an amazing journey. He met Jesus while in that coma. He recognized Him right away and was filled immediately with the peace and loved that he had always searched for. Jesus showed him a vision of his life. He saw himself as a chef, happily making dishes of his own creativity and saw people very much enjoying what he served for them. He saw a wedding, it was him with the most beautiful woman he had ever seen! Then he went quickly to seeing children happily surrounding him and this beautiful bride. “Lord! This is what I always dreamed of! Why did you keep me from this life?” The Lord replied, “My child, I didn’t keep you from it. You were never meant to be in that accident; it resulted from the choices you freely made. What I have given you a glimse of is the plan I have had for you always. You chose a different path. I have always been with you. I love my children and have good plans for their lives on earth, but I give you the choice to choose. My deepest desire is a relationship with My children, for each one to choose Me. I was always with you to help you down the path planned for your life. My hand has always been there for you to grab, son. You simply needed to grab it and trust.” Matty realized completely what he had done. “Lord, please give me another chance! I love you first!” Jesus looked at him and said, “Trust Me with all your heart. I will walk with you in all your moments. Teach my people to reach for Me. I AM the way, the truth and the Life.” Instantly Matty woke up in the hospital bed. He at first thought it was a dream that he experienced, but he knew that it was not at all a dream. He now knew love like he had never experienced before! He was healed and left the hospital the next day! He had the awareness of Jesus with him now, and from that point lived his life for Him. He talked with Him through every choice and decision. The Lord faithfully led Matty, hand in hand. He became the chef he had always dreamed of – working full time at a mission, creating and serving delicious food and sharing hearty servings of God’s love to the homeless in his city. Through his new church he met a beautiful woman, and each one prayed and knew they had found the life partner that God had planned for them. They honored and followed the Lord in their marriage and lives. Difficulties did meet them, but they conquered through with the strength of Jesus. Matty dedicated his life to what Jesus had shown him – showing others the way to the relationship with God that we are all made for! “My son, attend to my words; consent and submit to my sayings. Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flows the springs of life” – Proverbs 4:20-23

“Then the Lord said to Elijah, “Go to the east and hide by the Kerith Brook (Ravine), near where it enters the Jordan River. Drink from the brook and eat what the ravens bring you, for I have commanded them to bring food to you.” - 1 Kings 17:3 (NLT)

Elijah was told by God to “hide” in the Kerith Ravine, away from others but close to God, where God would meet all of his needs. From time to time, we are all placed in a “Kerith Ravine” in life. Times of trials, change, seasons where suddenly we are pulled away from what is familiar in our lives. It is in these times we are blessed, because God will use them to grow us spiritually, and prepare us for places that lie ahead in our lives. Our Ravine may be an illness, or a situation where we lose our job, a relationship suddenly falls apart or we are taken away from a position that we perhaps held for a long time. It can be very easy to become discouraged, frustrated and even angry. That’s because so often we are looking at the situation we are in through human vision. (For example: What am I going to do without a job? We will never have enough money. I’m freaking out over this diagnosis….I read about it , and it doesn’t sound good. Great, now I lost my management position that I’ve had for 5 years. It’s not fair! Etc, etc) It’s so important to instead grab onto God’s perspective, realizing that He has control! Don’t look at the situation –look above it, and know that God is doing something awesome in it! Use these times to spend more time with God, read His Word and let it fill your heart and mind. You will come out ahead, stronger and peace filled, even if you can’t see through to the other side. Don’t allow uncertainty to derail you. Remember, you don’t have to understand why, you just simply need to trust Him. Give Him the control, and you will have MUCH more peace! Say “Lord, your will is mine. I will hide myself under your wings. Show me your way and draw me close.” We will ALL face “Kerith Ravine” moments in our lives. Embrace your Heavenly Father and draw closer to Him!

“Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings” - Psalm 61:4

“I get nothing but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain. So, I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what a difficult task it is! THEN I went into Your sanctuary, O God, and I finally understood the destiny of the wicked. Truly, you put them on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction. Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant – I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. YET I still belong to You; You hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but You? I desire You more than anything on earth.” – Psalm 73:14,16-25 (emphasis mine)

Now THIS is a true love story! No matter how prickly I am, even at my absolute worst, God just keeps right on loving me. His amazing grace never ends! (ever have a prickly day??) Asaph honestly shares with us his not so nice side – he acted stupid, ignorant, and even brutish! He was caught up in feeling hopeless as he observed people who continually did evil around him prosper in every way, all the while they scoffed at God, and yet the ones who loved God and did what was right seemed to suffer. These feelings were tormenting him and leaving him in a state of utter hopelessness! It was when he had his “But God” moment and turned his eyes to Him that his perspective completely changed, and he was lifted out of his pit! Can you relate? Like Asaph, no matter how tough things get, I know that I know that I know that my loving Father is always there, never leaving, never changing, steadfast, true, pure, understanding supporting! Even on days when I feel like my emotions are on a rollercoaster, He is right there to catch me and ground me. God is ABSOLUTELY our Rock and Strength. We are made to need love and stability, and He is the one and only source! No matter what your condition (depressed, angry, anxious, jealous, discouraged, to name a few), just simply come to God with open hands. You can fully trust Him – unlike anything or anyone in this world, His love is true and unchanging. Don’t let the enemy trap you; turn it all over to God who loves you unconditionally.

“My heart may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, BUT GOD remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever! Those who desert You will perish, for You destroy those who abandon You. But as for me, how good it is to be near God! I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, and I will tell EVERYONE about the wonderful things You do. (vs 26-28)

“If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it.” James 1:5

Are you at a crossroads? Well, you are not the first! Look at some of our friends in the bible. Thomas came with doubts. Did Christ turn him away? Moses had his reservations. Did God tell him to go home? Job had his struggles. Did God avoid him? Paul had his hard times. Did God abandon him? No to all. Here’s why – God never turns away the sincere heart. Tough questions don’t stump God. He invites our probing. Mark it down. God NEVER turns away the honest seeker. Go to God with your questions. You may not find all the answers you are expecting, but in finding God, you know the One who does have all the answers. Through placing all your trust in Him, you become an overcomer!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In ALL your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths, (keep your paths straight.)” Proverbs 3:5-6 (emphasis mine)
