In memory of Kristallnacht, 15 year old vegan guitar playing Sol posted his version of Joan Baez's "Dona Dona" today.

Do you know the origin of and meaning behind this deeply emotional song?

While this powerful song became famous more from Joan Baez's 1960 version, "Dona Dona" was written by Sholom Secunda and Aaron Zeitlin in 1941. Yes, 1941, in the midst of the Holocaust, and that is what it is actually about. The lyrics make it seem to be about a calf being led to slaughter, but it is actually about Jews being led to slaughter by the N***s. It is quite an emotional song.

As the Winter Solstice is here today, this is a GOoD time to remember that each of us has the power to make choices to bring more light into the world (as we did with our Chanukah recently as well).

This is a commercial for Vodafone in Ireland that may be trying to sell phones and not veganism, but they surely get it - animals are friends not food!
