In Mark 15, we see the Roman soldiers mock Jesus with a purple robe and a crown of thorns. They intended it for shame, but Jesus used it for our salvation. We can relate to Barabbas. He was a guilty man who walked free while the sinless Savior took his place on the cross. This is the heart of the Gospel: substitutionary atonement. You don't have to earn your freedom or pay off your past; Jesus has already paid the price in full. We were guilty, but able to walk free all because Jesus took the cross that belonged to us. When falsely accused, our first instinct is to fight back. But Jesus stood in calm silence before Pilate. This wasn't Jesus showing weakness. It was a resolve to follow through with the reason He came to begin with. As a result, He would fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah 53:7. He was the Lamb of God, silent for our sake. How can you entrust your reputation to God today instead of fighting for your own way?

When the rooster crowed, Jesus turned and looked at Peter. It wasn't a look of 'I told you so' or hatred. Jesus gave a look that was filled with both sorrow and immense love. If you feel you've let God down, know that He sees you with compassion. He isn't shocked by your struggle; He’s ready to restore you.
