Good morning, dear church family, and friends!
I hope that you have all fallen under the magical spell of the last warm days of the year, the deep shadows cast by extreme brightness of light, and the first signs of autumn colors.
Steve and I had company this week; his dear sister Linda and brother-in-law Joe were with us from Friday until Thursday. We dusted off our hospitality skills and made meals to share, took numerous excursions, and played some games between the telling of old family stories. Thanks to Covid it had been ten years since Linda had visited, and 21 years for Joe. Lots of catching up to do!
Yesterday, even though we had been in the highlands twice this week; we grabbed our hiking buddy, Terry, and drove to Mt. Rainier to tackle the steep Pinnacle Peak trek and its grand vista views from the top. It was a bear of a climb for me, mainly due to the altitude; and we foraged off of huckleberries like bears too! And that is why, my friends, that you did not hear from me yesterday. My plans to write to you in the evening gave way to sleep! But here we are in the morning light and all is well.
I have some good news for those of us who have been following Ruth Martin's long, long hunt for a new home with prayers. Many folks helped her move out of her home at the end of last week. Thank you so much, Peter. Ruth sends huge thanks to you for the many, many hours that you worked to help her meet her exit deadline. According to Lynn Bishop, a mother in her circle of associates who have special needs children, has offered her a home to rent on her farm a few miles outside of Centralia. Ruth will be living in a doublewide trailer home close to the new friend's house. I am so full of gratitude for this new situation for Ruth and Sol. Thank you, God! That was quite the trial!
Plans are being made, as I mentioned last week, for a visit from our Methodist district supervisor on October 19th. The news is that the service will be held in Morton for all three churches that share messages. We warmly invite the congregations of Randle UMC and Grace Historic Church to gather under the humble roof of Morton UMC for this special joint service with Kathleen Webber. I can't imagine that we won't eat food at some point too. I'll fill you in with those details in the weeks to come. I believe there will be a presentation for us as well as a message. More details about that later too.
Reminder: Morton UMC will be having an All Church Meeting on September 28th right after worship, accompanied by a pot-luck. Come eat and hear about our church!
