There are many intellectual and theological phrases that could be used to describe Morton Christian Church. Words such as: independent, non-denominational, and autonomous to name a few. Although they might be accurate in their descriptions, they can be confusing as well. A better description would be that Morton Christian Church is a community of believers in God who look to the Bible for instruction on how to live life with God, with His church and with the community around us. Life in the “church” that is focused on worship, study, and service will provide the framework for our personal spiritual growth, interaction and survival in the culture we live in today. Below are some key references to scripture from which we receive our identity. We Believe ...

… that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God who died for our sins and arose from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

… that the Bible is the inspired word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16)

… that every person has worth as a creation of God, but that all have sinned and fallen short of what God desires for us. (Romans 3:23)

… that forgiveness of sin and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust in God and his son Jesus as Savior and Lord. (John 3:16)

… that those desiring to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord should turn to God, confess him as Lord, and be immersed in baptism. (Romans 10:9–10, Acts 2:38, Galatians 3:26-27)

… that the church is the body of Christ on earth. It is empowered by the Holy Spirit and exists to save the lost and strengthen the saved. (Ephesians 4:1-6, 11-16)

… that Jesus will one day return and reign forever as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

🏡 HOWDY, PILGRIMS 🏡

“All these died in faith, without receiving the promises, but having seen them and having welcomed them from a distance, and having confessed that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.”
— Hebrews 11:13 📖

The King James Version says that these great people of faith were “strangers and pilgrims.” ✨

Someone once said:

🏃 A fugitive is one who is running from home.
🌎 A vagabond is one who has no home.
🧳 A stranger is one who is away from home.
🏡 A pilgrim is one who is on the way home.

What a beautiful description of the Christian life. 🤍

We are pilgrims…
Travelers passing through…
Not fully settled here…
Because this world is not our final home.

And while the journey can sometimes feel long…

🛣️ the road may have potholes
↪️ unexpected detours
⛰️ steep climbs
🌧️ difficult seasons

…we keep moving forward with hope.

Because we know where we’re headed. 🙌

We are on our way home—
to the place where eternity with Jesus awaits. ✨

What a promise.
What a hope.
What a Savior.

So today, lift your eyes beyond the temporary things of this world…
and remember where your true home is. 🕊️

**Are you looking forward to seeing heaven?

🌿 Saturday Serenity 🌿

“The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
— Psalms 19:1 📖

Nature is a constant witness to the majesty of God—the Creator of all things. ✨

It reminds us that the beauty of creation is no accident…
but an undeniable display of God’s power, creativity, and intentional design. 🙏

Have you ever stopped just to gaze at…

🌅 a vibrant sunset
✨ a star-filled night sky
⛰️ the grandeur of a mountain
🌾 a quiet field swaying in the wind

The Psalmist wrote these words to remind us:

• The universe is not random
• Creation is not accidental
• The world around us is a living display of God’s artistry

The word declare means to announce or proclaim.

Day after day…
Night after night…
the skies act like a giant billboard pointing us to their Maker. ☁️🌌

The sheer magnitude…
the mathematical precision…
the breathtaking beauty of creation…

all proclaim one powerful truth:

God is real… and He is infinitely powerful. 🤍

Creation’s sermon has no voice—yet it is always speaking.

Silently calling us to lift our eyes…
to notice His handiwork…
and to remember the Creator behind it all.

Just as a painting reflects the heart of the artist…
creation reflects the wisdom, beauty, and glory of God. 🎨

So I ask you today…

What part of creation most clearly reminds you of God’s presence? 🍃

Join me in this prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Open my eyes today to the incredible beauty of Your creation. Let it remind me of Your greatness, Your power, and Your love. Help me slow down long enough to notice Your handiwork all around me—and to worship You through wonder.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

✨ God — Our Soul Source ✨

“I say to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from You I have no good thing.’”
— Psalm 16:2 📖

What a profound declaration of trust. 🤍

This verse is a powerful reminder of our complete dependence on God—acknowledging Him as the true source of every blessing, every purpose, and every lasting satisfaction in our lives. 🙏

It’s so easy to attach our sense of value, joy, and identity to worldly things…

• achievements
• relationships
• possessions
• comfort
• success

But Psalm 16:2 gently calls us to pause and ask:

What is the true source of my fulfillment?

When we look to the world alone to satisfy our hearts, even good things can eventually lose their shine.

But when we recognize God as the giver behind every good gift…
those gifts become even more meaningful—because we see His hand in them. ✨

And when our identity is rooted in God, rather than in our circumstances…
we find a peace that is steady and unshakable—no matter what life brings. 🕊️

When David says, “You are my Lord,”
he isn’t simply calling God a supreme being…
he is surrendering to Him as Master, Provider, and Authority over his life.

And when he says, “Apart from You I have no good thing,”
he is declaring that God alone is the ultimate source of all joy…
all provision…
all hope.

If that’s your heart today, pray this with me: 🙏

Heavenly Father,
I acknowledge You as my Lord and the source of every good thing in my life. Forgive me for the times I look to the world for fulfillment instead of seeking You first. Remind me that apart from You, I have no good thing. Fill me with Your presence, and help me find my deepest joy and peace in You alone.

In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🤍

🍃 Wholehearted Gratitude 🍃

“I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;
I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9‬:‭1‬ 📖

What a powerful declaration of heartfelt worship! 🙏

Today’s verse encourages us to intentionally pause…
to recognize God’s faithfulness…
and to offer Him our complete gratitude. 🤍

Gratitude grows through remembrance. ✨

Take time today to mentally list—and even speak aloud—what God has already done in your life.
Remember His faithfulness.
Remember His provision.
Remember His grace.
Remember His healing.

When we intentionally focus on what God has done…
our perspective shifts from our present struggles → to His greatness. 🙌

And as our awareness of His greatness grows…
thankfulness becomes a natural overflow of the heart.

Sharing your testimony of His goodness is powerful. 💛
When you tell others what God has done…
you encourage them to see His active presence in their own lives too.

So ask God today…

✨ to open your eyes to His wonderful deeds in your life
✨ to help you recognize His blessings all around you
✨ and to make gratitude not just a moment… but a lifestyle

May your thanksgiving become a testimony…
and may your testimony point others to His goodness. 🙏🤍

☀️ Morning Prayer ☀️

“In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice;
in the morning I lay my requests before you
and wait expectantly.”
— Psalms 5:3 📖

This verse gives us a beautiful blueprint for how every believer can begin the day. 🙏

It reminds us to:
✨ Put God first
✨ Lay our burdens before Him
✨ Wait with hopeful expectation for His response

3 Keys to Morning Prayer 🤍

1. “In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice…”
Start your day by seeking God first.
Before the noise…
Before the distractions…
Before the worries of the day begin to crowd your thoughts…

Anchor yourself in the presence of God. 🕊️

2. “…I lay my requests before You…”
You were never meant to carry every burden alone.

Bring the pieces of your life before Him.
Your worries.
Your needs.
Your fears.
Your desires.

Be honest with Him—He already knows your heart. 🤍

3. “…and wait expectantly.”
Prayer isn’t just speaking and moving on…
It’s also watching.
Listening.
Trusting.

It means looking to God with faith and expectation—believing He is working, even when we cannot yet see it. ✨

Join me this morning in prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your mercies that are new every morning. ☀️
As I begin this day, I lay my requests and concerns before You.
Help me release control, trust in Your timing, and wait expectantly for how You will move in my life.
Guide my thoughts, my steps, and my heart today.

*In Jesus’ name, Amen.

🤍 God Hears in the Chaos

I call out to the Lord, and he answers me from his holy mountain.
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭3‬:4 📖

This verse is a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the distress…
God hears the cries of His children and answers from His holy presence. 🙏

In the midst of betrayal by his son Absalom, David lifted his voice in raw, honest, and urgent prayer. 💔

David was physically removed from the temple in Jerusalem — yet he knew with absolute certainty…

✨ No distance
✨ No enemy
✨ No barrier

could block his prayers from reaching God Almighty.

So what does that mean for us today?

🙏 First — God welcomes your cries for help, even in the middle of your mess.

🛡️ Second — God’s presence is near.
Like David, you may feel surrounded by “enemies” — physical threats, spiritual battles, crippling stress, or overwhelming circumstances.
Trust that God is near… and He is your shield.

🕊️ Finally — Trust brings rest.
Because David knew God heard him, he was able to lie down, sleep, and wake refreshed despite everything happening around him.
The same is true for all who call on His name.

So today, ask yourself:

🤍 What burden or situation is causing you anxiety right now?

Instead of listening to the voices that say there is no hope…

➡️ Pause
➡️ Speak your distress honestly to God
➡️ Trust that He hears you
➡️ And rest in His perfect timing

🇺🇸 Memorial Monday 🇺🇸

✝️ No Greater Love

Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13 📖

Every Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women of the military who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Their willingness to leave behind their families, comforts, and futures to protect the freedoms we enjoy today is a profound reflection of sacrificial love. 🤍

In John 15:13, Jesus points us to this very kind of selfless heroism.

He reminds us that there is no greater display of love than willingly giving one’s life for another. ✨

Today, as we observe Memorial Day, let us take a quiet moment to reflect on two great sacrifices:

🇺🇸 1. The sacrifice of the fallen
Remember the soldiers who gave their last full measure of devotion for the earthly liberties and freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

✝️ 2. The sacrifice of the Savior
Remember Jesus Christ, who laid down His life on the cross so we could have eternal freedom from sin and death.

The best way to honor a sacrifice is to live a life worthy of it. 🙏

So today, let us use the freedoms we have been given —
both earthly and spiritual —

🤍 to love God
🤝 to serve others
🕊️ and to spread peace in our homes, churches, and communities.

May we remember with gratitude.
May we live with purpose.
May we never forget. 🇺🇸✝️
