Here is the final sermon preached yesterday (from my sermon blog), from Ecclesiastes 3. There is a time for everything, including for churches to close.

November 2nd Sermon: “A Time for Everything” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2, 11

What is dawning on my mind and heart from this Scripture reading is that God has indeed set times and places in all of our lives. Yes, there are appointed times, and seasons for things and events t…

Daily Prayer: an Interfaith prayer, a Mohawk prayer of Thanksgiving.
Oh Great Spirit, Creator of all things;
Human Beings, trees, grass, berries.
Help us, be kind to us.
Let us be happy on earth.
Let us lead our children
To a good life and old age.
These our people; give them good minds
To love one another.
Oh Great Spirit,
Be kind to us
Give these people the favor
To see green trees,
Green grass, flowers, and berries
This next spring;
So we all meet again
Oh Great Spirit,
We ask of you.

Daily Prayer: "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God," by Martin Luther.

A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper He amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the Right Man on our side,
the Man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who That may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He;
Lord Sabaoth, His name,
from age to age the same,
and He must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
His truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours,
thru Him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill;
God's truth abideth still;
His kingdom is forever.

Daily Prayer: posted for Reformation Sunday.

O Lord, O mighty fortress,
You plant your words of hope deep within us.
You give us the word we need,
so we might live in Your grace,
God of Creation.
You freely become one of us,
so we could be liberated
from our addiction to sin;
You take us by the hand
to lead us out of our doubts;
Friend of the needy.
You pull us to safety
when sin's waters swirl around our feet;
You surround us with serenity
when doubts rattle our souls,
Spirit of Holiness.
Be present with us in strength and power
as we lift our hearts to You, O Lord.
We pray in the mighty name
of Jesus our Savior and Redeemer, amen.

Daily Prayer: Prayer for Strength When Feeling Abandoned

Almighty God, my Fortress, what a joy it is to have a friend in Jesus. Even when I am overcome by feelings of abandonment, You are there with me. I know that I am never truly alone. Fill me with Your love and direct me in the way I am to love others. Change my priorities away from needing approval from other people to instead having comfort in knowing that I am accepted by You. Thank You, dear Lord. Amen.
