The Father Who Is Always Working | Week 11 Devotional on John 5:16–24

Feeling like you have to carry everything on your shoulders can leave you spiritually and emotionally exhausted. But Jesus reminds us that God the Father is always working—and Jesus is working with Him.

In this Week 11 devotional from John 5:16–24, we explore how Jesus reveals His unity with the Father and invites us to release our burdens, rest in God’s strength, and trust that He is actively sustaining and redeeming our lives.

You do not have to be the engine of your own existence. God is working, even when you cannot see it.

If you follow Jesus: Consider where you may be relying on functional self-reliance. Surrender those burdens to God and rest in His care.

If you are still exploring faith: Pray, “God, if You are actively working in this world, help me stop carrying everything myself.”

Prayer:

Life has hallways—at school, work, home, online, and even at church. They are the places where pressure, conflict, comparison, criticism, anxiety, and difficult conversations often meet us.
In the final week of Sustenance for the Shift, we turn to Ephesians 6:10–20 and discover that God does not send us into everyday battles empty-handed. He gives us His armor: truth for our minds, righteousness for our hearts, peace for our steps, faith for our battles, salvation for our thoughts, and His Word for our response.
This message is a reminder that people are not our enemy. We can stand firm in Christ without becoming hard-hearted toward those around us.

Week 9: Faith at a Distance: Trusting Jesus Beyond What You Can See: John 4:46-54
When crisis strikes, sitting in the waiting room of an uncertain outcome can leave us feeling completely powerless. In Week 9’s study of John 4:46–54, a desperate royal official asks Jesus to travel twenty miles to heal his dying son. Instead of physically going, Jesus simply speaks the word: "Go; your son will live." The father is left with a choice—demand visible proof, or trust an unseen promise.
