Official Response from The Potter’s House Church Regarding the July Event at Cauldwell Playground Post by Alton Robinson
We are writing in response to the recent open letter, expressing concern about a community event held at Caldwell Playground. While we fully support every community’s right to ask questions and advocate for their children, we must address the false claims that have been made publicly about this event and our church.
Let us be very clear:
No child was ever turned away from this event. Not based on race, background, or any other reason. The Potter’s House Church has hosted this free community festival for over 20 years- and past three years at Cauldwell—open to all children and families, regardless of who they are or where they come from. Unity has always been at the heart of our mission, and this year was no different.
We as the honest, faithful and dedicated church to the community, we did an internal investigation and there was a single event that was handled for THE SAFETY OF ALL children, especially the small.
In the Jump house we could not allow anyone over specific weight and height and risk the safety and wellbeing of the small children. These safety measures are seen in any park or ride across the country; most have a height and weight limit and this is not our rule imposed that day but the ride itself.
This is not about race or ethnicity!
This is a smear campaign, targeting a church and its leader, by individuals who are bring lies to tear down others. A story or letter without facts, and immediately accuse is distasteful and ignorant.
We are heartbroken by the accusations —defamatory misinformation, damaging and hurtful. To say that our church, that has maintained a reputation of unity for over 20 years, would deliberately exclude children of color, is simply not true and goes against everything we stand for and do. Our congregation is led and supported by many dedicated families with mixed races, and we often collaborate with local churches, specifically African American Churches to bring unity continually.
The event was staffed entirely by volunteers who gave their time and resources to serve the neighborhood with joy and love.
To suggest that it was discriminatory event not only undermines their efforts, but sows unnecessary division in a community we have always sought to uplift.
Furthermore, the suggestion that this was an exclusive or private event is also false. The flyers were distributed to invite the community, and everyone was welcome. No restrictions were stated, and none were enforced. If anyone felt confused or overlooked, we are sincerely sorry for that perception—but that was not the reality of the event.
We believe these accusations are not only untrue, but also unjustly target a church that has long served this diverse neighborhood—with compassion and consistency. The individuals targeting us have a clear motive since our arrival to Morristown as some who responded and shared were once publicly allied with past Mayor Crisitello, to have ICE get Hispanics out of Morristown and told us our church should “be ashamed to have these people as members”.
Our congregation is made up of many backgrounds, and our mission is rooted in faith, love, and unity.
We invite anyone with concerns to speak with us directly. Instead of spreading division through misinformation. Let’s come together for honest dialogue, mutual respect, and shared goals. We remain committed to serving this community with integrity, and to creating safe, joyful spaces for all children—just as we always have.
We, as a community of faith, call on the defamatory conspirators as well as other supporters of this individual, to take responsibility for the harm caused through the DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER AND INSTITUTION. We also ask for transparency, accountability, and a genuine commitment to doing better.
Sincerely,On behalf of The Potter’s House Church
