Congratulations to our newest Board member, Jerry Ashby for being inducted into the Arkansas Military Veterans' Hall of Fame.
Ashby, who currently serves as the commander of the Nathan G. Gordon American Legion Post 39, was inducted as part of the 2025 Class in a ceremony on Saturday, November 15.
He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1981 with 11 1/2 years of active service including three tours in the Vietnam War. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation and Good Conduct Award.
Ashby's community involvement and leadership roles include race relations committee member during the South Conway County School District Desegregation case, founder and leader of the Conway County Angel Tree Toy Run, 11 1/2 years of service in the Arkansas Patriot Guard Riders in all leadership positions including state captain for two-and-a-half years. He also organized the Arkansas Run for The Fallen State Capitol Flag Line and is the founder and location coordinator of the Wreaths Across America at Elmwood Cemetery in Morrilton. In 2024, Ashby was recognized as "Citizen of the Year" by the Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce.
The objective of the Arkansas Military Veterans’ Hall of Fame is to publicly emphasize the honor brought to the state and nation by the sacrifice of Arkansas military veterans and their families.
