Ask Your Preacher
It is taught by many in the religious world that baptism is not necessary for salvation; that it is merely an outward sign of some inward action. In other words, you are baptized to show that your sins have already been forgiven. If you have been taught that then I invite you to Ask Your Preacher:
1. Why did Jesus say in Mark 16:16 “he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved…”?
2. Why did Peter say “repent and be baptized … for the remission of sins” in Acts 2:38?
3. Why was Paul (at that time known as Saul) told to “… arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins …” Acts 22:16?
4. Why did Peter teach “the like figure whereunto baptism doth also now save us” 1 Peter 3:21?
The truth is that it is in the act of biblical baptism (immersion in water) that we come in contact with the blood of Christ and God forgives our sins. Prior to baptism, regardless of our confession of Jesus, we are still in our sins and while in sin, we cannot have fellowship with God.
