Have you ever asked or reflected on this faith question ? Why Did Jesus Have to Die Anyway ?✝️

Lent season invites us to slow down, reflect, and ask the deep questions of faith. One question many people carry—sometimes quietly—is this: Why did Jesus have to die? This is an honest question to ask and it is OK to ask !

At Morgantown UMC, we believe faith is strong enough to hold honest questions. Jesus welcomed seekers, doubters, and disciples alike—and still does.

Every Sunday - Beginning Sunday February 22nd through Sunday March 25th @ 9:30am-10:30am in Altruist Sunday school class, we invite you to join us for a Lenten study where we explore the meaning of Jesus’ death on the cross—not just as a doctrine, but as a story of love, sacrifice, grace, and hope. This will be a relational space for conversation, listening, Scripture, and shared reflection, where every voice matters.

Whether you’re certain, unsure, curious, or searching—you are welcome.
Come journey with us this Lent as we seek to understand what the cross means for our lives today as individuals, families and communities.

Last year, Morgantown United Methodist Church, in partnership with Mary McCully and Hospital Sisters Mission Outreach, shipped a forty-foot container full of medical equipment to Habwawihe Medical Polyclinic-HMP

Last weekend, the hospital held a free screening campaign:
hypertension, diabetes (and people given medications)
eye diseases,
and audiology.

Free of charge.
Hundreds of people showed up.

The impact is enormous. These specialty services are usually unavailable, unaffordable, and inaccessible to ordinary people.

Please watch the video below. One of the doctors explained what the hospital does, and you will see the shipment being unloaded (they use the local language, but I hope you can enjoy the images).

It is Lent!
This Lent, we invite you to pray the Stations of the Cross, beginning March 5th (Ash Wednesday).

Please use the image, scripture, and questions as tools to pray and reflect.

Station 1: Pilate Condemns Jesus to die (week of March 5 - March 8):

“Very early in the morning, the chief priests, with the elders, the teachers of the law and the whole Sanhedrin, made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away and handed him over to Pilate... Wanting to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be crucified.” (Mark 15:1-4,15)

Questions for reflection:

Where and when have you faced false condemnation?

Are there people you may have condemned who might need your forgiveness?
