Greater St. Paul AME Church is launching Faith Walkers this Wednesday evening immediately following our 6PM Bible Study!

Faith Walkers is a simple opportunity for us to gather, move our bodies, encourage one another, and enjoy fellowship beyond the walls of the church. Whether you're an experienced walker or just getting started, all are welcome. Walk at your own pace. Walk with a friend. Walk in quiet reflection. Just come and join us.

Our theme verse is:

"For we walk by faith, not by sight."
— 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV)

Think of it as "Scriptures & Sneakers"—bringing together spiritual growth, physical wellness, and Christian fellowship.

Come walk with us at the Coliseum as we strengthen our faith, our health, and our community—one step at a time.

Feel free to invite others to join us!

Psalm
Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God..."

Proverb
Proverbs 3:5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."

Words of Jesus
Matthew 11:28
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

Meditation: When Stillness Is the Assignment

We live in a culture that rewards movement.
Move faster.
Work harder.
Do more.
Achieve more.

If we're not careful, we can become so busy doing things for God that we neglect being with God.

Yet Psalm 46 contains a command that sounds almost foreign to our ears:
"Be still."

Notice that God does not say, "Be frantic and know that I am God." He does not say, "Be exhausted and know that I am God." He says, "Be still."

Stillness is not inactivity. It is trust.

It is the decision to stop carrying burdens that were never ours to carry in the first place.

The writer of Proverbs reminds us not to lean on our own understanding. That's difficult because we like having answers. We like being in control. We like knowing how everything is going to work out.

But faith often requires us to trust God before we understand God.

Then Jesus extends one of the most beautiful invitations in all of Scripture:

"Come to me."
Not "Come to me after you've figured it out."
Not "Come to me after you've fixed yourself."
Not "Come to me after you've carried the load a little longer."

Just come.

Some of us are tired—not just physically, but spiritually. We've been carrying worries, responsibilities, disappointments, and expectations that have worn us down.

Today, Jesus reminds us that rest is not something we earn. It is something He gives.

Maybe the most faithful thing you can do this week is not work harder.

Maybe the most faithful thing you can do is pause, pray, breathe, and trust.

Sometimes stillness is not the interruption of the assignment.
Stillness is the assignment.

✨ Application Points
• Spend five minutes today in silence before God without asking Him for anything.
• Release one burden you've been carrying that belongs in God's hands.
• Remember that resting in God is not laziness—it is an act of faith.

🙏🏾 Prayer
Lord, thank You for inviting us to rest in Your presence. Forgive us for the times we've tried to carry what only You can handle. Teach us to trust You more than we trust our plans, our schedules, and our understanding. Help us find peace in Your presence and strength in Your promises. In Jesus' name, Amen.

✨ Keep the faith, walk in love, and let God lead the way.

Wednesdays in the Word with Pastor G
Title: Cast the Net Together
Scripture Reading: John 21:1–14 (NIV)

Key Verse:
John 21:6 – “He said, ‘Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.”

Meditation:

After the resurrection—after the empty tomb—after Jesus had already revealed Himself alive—the disciples went back to fishing. Not because they didn’t believe, but because they were still discerning their next step.

All night long, they worked together… and caught nothing.
But at daybreak, everything changed.

Jesus stood on the shore and gave them a simple instruction:
“Throw your net on the right side of the boat.”

They were already fishing. Already trying. Already working.
But they were working without His direction.

And when they listened—when they moved together—when they followed His voice—
the same net, in the same water, with the same people, overflowed.

That’s our word:
Sometimes the difference is not effort—it’s alignment.
They didn’t need new tools.
They didn’t need new territory.
They needed to follow Jesus—together.

Now let’s bring it home…

Recently, we placed something simple in your hands—those church invitation cards.

Don’t overlook them.
That’s a net.
A tool.
A seed.
An opportunity.

You don’t have to create the message.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
You don’t have to “figure it out.”

Just be willing to cast.
Hand it to a coworker.
Share it with a neighbor.
Give it to someone at the store.

Offer it with a smile, a word, and a spirit of love.
Because when we all cast together—under His direction—
we’re not just inviting people to church…
we’re helping draw people to Jesus.

And when the harvest comes, it won’t be about one person—
we’ll bring it in together.

Remember:
• We don’t fish alone.
• We don’t work without direction.
• And we don’t miss what God has already placed in our hands.

Let’s use what He gave us.
Let’s trust His voice.
Let’s cast the net—together.

Closing
If we listen together, move together, and trust Him together,
we won’t just work—we will witness the overflow.

Closing Prayer
Lord,
Teach us not just to work harder, but to work together.
Give us boldness to use what You’ve placed in our hands.
Help us to cast the net in faith, trusting Your direction.
Draw people to Yourself through our obedience,
and let the harvest bring glory to You.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.

Cast the net—He brings the catch. 🎣✨

Stay in the Word, walk in the light, and keep growing in grace.

Don’t Lose the Twist Tie

(Proverbs 4:23, Acts 2:42, Hebrews 2:1, Colossians 3:14, Revelation 2:4–5a)

Recently, I was making a sandwich for my daughter and did something I’ve done a hundred times before—I took off the twist tie from the bread… and immediately misplaced it.

I didn’t throw it away.
I didn’t reject it.

I just set it down while I was busy doing something good.

And it hit me: that’s how it often works in life and faith.

The twist tie is a small thing, but it’s the very thing designed to hold everything together—to keep the bread fresh, protected, and from getting stale. Without it, you can improvise for a while. You can tie a knot or use a clip. But those substitutes were never the original design.

Spiritually, God has given us “twist ties” too.
His Word.
Prayer.
Communion with the saints.
Daily devotion.
Fasting.
Worship.

These are not extras. They are the means of grace God uses to hold us together—individually, collectively, and spiritually.

Scripture reminds us:

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.” (Hebrews 2:1, NIV)

Drift doesn’t happen because we stop believing.
It happens because we stop paying attention.

The good news?
If you’ve lost your twist tie, it’s probably not gone forever.
You’re still in the kitchen.
God hasn’t left the room.

Sometimes you just have to slow down…
move a few things…
and return to what once held you together.
Before you blame the bread for being stale,
ask whether the twist tie is missing.
Grace and peace today.
Let’s stay fresh—together.

Closing Prayer:
Lord,
Help us not to lose what holds us together.
Where we have drifted, draw us back.
Where we have substituted, realign us.
Teach us to treasure the small, faithful practices that keep us fresh in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Dear Greater St. Paul AME Church Family and Friends,

Grace and peace to you on this holy Christmas Eve.

As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we are reminded that God came near to us—not in power and splendor, but in vulnerability, compassion, and love. Emmanuel—God with us—meets us in joy and in sorrow, in celebration and in grief.

This Christmas season, we are especially mindful that for some among us, this is a first holiday without a cherished family member or loved one. We grieve with you. We hold you in prayer. And we trust that the God who entered the world through a manger is the same God who draws close to the brokenhearted and carries those who are mourning. Please know that you do not walk through this season alone—your church family walks with you.

As we look toward the New Year, we do so with hearts shaped by compassion and hope. We sense God calling Greater St. Paul AME Church to continue growing—not only in number, but in love, care, worship, and witness. We are prayerfully envisioning a year ahead marked by deeper connection, meaningful outreach, thoughtful programming, and a worship experience that speaks to both the needs of our congregation and the wider community God has placed around us.

Rooted in our rich history since 1871, and guided by the Holy Spirit, we believe God is preparing us for a season of renewed purpose—where faith is nurtured, lives are touched, and hope is extended beyond our walls. We move forward gently, faithfully, and together, trusting God to order our steps.

May your Christmas be filled with the peace of Christ, your homes with comfort and light, and your hearts with the assurance that God is still near. And as we welcome the New Year, may we do so with courage, compassion, and confidence in the One who holds our future.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Greater St. Paul AME Church.

Grace and peace to you.

If you were unable to join us for worship yesterday—or if you would like to go back and listen again or share the message with someone who could use encouragement—I’m happy to let you know that the sermon is now available to stream.

Yesterday’s message, “Joy Ahead of Schedule,” reminds us that Christian joy does not wait for everything to be finished. Before the blessing breaks forth, joy breaks loose—and the Holy Spirit still fills houses with hope as we wait on the Lord.

You can listen to or share the sermon here:

Note: The message is live on Spotify now and will appear on Apple Podcasts and other platforms shortly.

Thank you for your prayers, your presence, and your continued faithfulness. May the joy of the Lord strengthen you this week.

More Grace.
