“The Faith of a Widow” 1st Kings 17:8-24
>. There are so many questions found in verse 9. How did God instruct a Gentile widow to feed his prophet?
> There were many widows in the city, but at the exact time that Elijah was sitting, standing, waiting, by the gate, here came the widow that God has inspired to arise out of her home, go near the gate looking for sticks to make a fire.
> BUT, when you read all the way thru the account, and get to verse 24, you kinda get the sense that she had knowledge of God, but being a Gentile, thought it not possible to be one of the elect.
> She told Elijah, I only have enough oil, and enough flour to make a biscuit or two.
> When you read the words of verse 12, she makes the statement, “As the Lord YOUR God lives, I don’t have enough for an entire cake, but only enough for a couple biscuits.”
> And then she heard the words, “Fear not” and it changed her thinking.
> When we finally see that we are out of options, that is where we need to be.
> But sometimes the things in our life resemble good plants, but they are only disguised as good plants, when in reality they are weeds.
> In is in those times that we need to see Jesus and lay it all on the altar, and say “Dear Jesus, forgive me I pray.”
> And then the passage gets to verse 17 where it tells us that the widow’s son got sick, a sickness that brought on death.
> As we look at verse 18, . . .
> Notice the response of Elijah in verse 20.
> And then verse 22 tells us this, “And God heard the voice of Elijah.”
> In verse 22, the child was indeed dead. There was no life in him.
> Isn’t that what it says in Hebrews 11:1?

Notes for 08-30-2026
“What does ALL THINGS mean?” Romans 8:28
>. it is a verse that has so much control over our lives.
> What this verse actually tells us is that IF we love God, and I mean love him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength, then we can see that these things that take place are happening for a purpose, God’s purpose.
> John 21:15-19
> Scripture uses 3 to mark moments of fullness, completion, and divine action.
> Each time we are tempted, each time we are tried in the fire, if we listen carefully, in the quietness of the moment, we can hear Jesus saying, “Do you love me more than these?”
> But we also must ask ourselves, “What is our baseline of truth?”
> The church, God’s church, is not a business model.
> If we want to go to His heaven, that he has made for us, then we have to live a life of gratefulness.
> And that is what it takes, for our gratefulness to overcome our fear of the world.
> Why did God populate the world with people who have the ability to reason, to comprehend, to know their left hand from their right hand? The answer is found in the latter part of our text in Romans 8.
> If we love God, more than our spouse, more than our family, more than life itself, then the things that occur in our lives, will indeed contribute to our good.
> We can never be grateful, if we have nothing to be grateful for.
> When we back up to verse 27, we can get a clearer picture of what is happening in our lives
> Read it like this. “God searches our heart, and God instructs the Holy Spirit to move in our lives, according to what God will is for us, what His purpose is, for what is happening.”
