Knights of Columbus Council 9579 This is the page for Knights of Columbus Council 9579 in Morganton NC. In 1882, Father Michael J. McGivney gathered a small group of parishioners in St.

Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn. His purpose was to establish a group of men, united in their faith and to provide for Catholic families in times of need. This was the beginning of the Knights of Columbus. Guided by the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity members of the Knights of Columbus work to overcome the hardships that people face in their parishes and communities. We are a growing

organization - nearly 2 million members - and for over 130 years have committed to overcome the challenges of the need for food, shelter, warm clothing and financial security, as well as provide aid for widows and orphans in our local communities. The Fr. William T McShea Council #9579 is proud to serve the parish of St. Charles Borromeo and the surrounding city of Morganton, NC.

Leading up to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, the U.S. bishops will consecrate the nation to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 11, the eve of the solemnity of the Sacred Heart. Beginning today, Knights and their families are encouraged to pray a novena that concludes June 11. Visit kofc.org/america250 to learn more.

Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee for Religious Liberty and a longtime Knight, recently spoke with Columbia about devotion to the Sacred Heart, the upcoming consecration of the United States and the role of religious liberty in American society. “Our hope is that greater charity will be exercised throughout our country, and that in the heart of Christ we will rediscover the unity that seems to be slipping away from us in today’s divisive culture,” he said. “That in the heart of Christ we will find ourselves to be friends again, even with those with whom we disagree.”

The month of May is dedicated to Our Lady — a time not only to honour Mary, but to follow her.

Her greatness was not in extraordinary displays, but in quiet faith, humility, and trust in God. In the hidden moments of daily life, she said “yes” — again and again.

This month invites us to do the same: to live simply, to trust more deeply, and to reflect Christ in the ordinary.

May Our Lady guide us to a faith that is not only admired, but lived.

Becoming a Knight starts with a simple yes, and that yes can shape your faith, your family, and your future. If you’re ready to stand with other Catholic men, the invitation is already there.

Blessed feast day of St. Joseph the Worker!

Work does more than build the world around us. It shapes our character. Through work we learn perseverance, responsibility, and humility. St. Joseph shows us that faithful labor forms the soul.

St. Joseph, example of humility, help us to approach our work with patience and perseverance. May our efforts help build God’s kingdom. Amen.

Explore how daily work can shape our character and draw us closer to God.

Saint Denis of Paris, the first bishop of Paris, gave his life for Christ—but his story didn’t end with his ex*****on.

Sent by Pope Fabian to evangelize Gaul, Denis preached fearlessly until he was arrested by Roman authorities and taken to Montmartre.

There, he was beheaded.

But what happened next is one of the most extraordinary accounts in Christian tradition:

He stood up…picked up his severed head…and walked.

Not a few steps. Not just across the hill. He walked several miles—carrying his own head—while continuing to proclaim the faith.

Only when he reached the place God had prepared did he finally collapse.

That site would later become the Basilica of Saint-Denis, the resting place of French kings.

St. Denis shows us:

Even death cannot silence a soul on fire for Christ. Even when everything is taken… faith can still walk forward.

St. Denis of Paris, pray for us..
